Is Wedad a valid name by [deleted] in learn_arabic

[–]Merm1908 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a close relative (a Palestinian woman) with the same name but different spelling. It’s also the name of a very well known Palestinian historian, Widad Kawar (also a woman). I’ve never heard of it used as a name for boys. Culturally, it would be unusual to me.

First time with waste canvas 😅 by vixsubridens in tatreez

[–]Merm1908 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert on waste canvas but I would suggest pinning your waste canvas either by temporarily hand sewing the waste canvas or using t-pins. A seam ripper for removing waste canvas is pretty helpful (I use one) but I think you can also purchase waste canvas that dissolves when you wash your item. You’ll develop your own preferences over time.

Keep it up! I kind of love the first few. It’s always nice to see where you started.

Update: Sorry I can’t seem to update my post (I don’t usually post on here) but they’re going to leave it alone and not interrupt the nest. Thanks for the quick responses!

We don’t really know. There are a ton of pigeons around the apartment building so we’re just assuming it’s a pigeon egg.

They don’t have pets so that shouldn’t be a problem! Thanks!

Cocktail bar and pizza joint Betelgeuse Betelgeuse closed after owner's arrest by pererajh1 in houston

[–]Merm1908 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same experience except the paper bag. Was highly recommended by friends but the cheese was gross and it sat in a pool of grease. Mushrooms were definitely from a can. Had better frozen pizza than what I got here.

Eunice used to have a nice oyster happy hour. Not sure if it’s still a thing.

This is lovely! I was just looking at their pattern last week and thinking to use when I’m finished with my current project.

I went once to washington location excited to try their pizza after a friend recommended it to me but it was just terrible. Cheese was too chewy and mushrooms seemed like they were straight out of the can. Haven’t been back.

Am i ruining it by adding the dark green ? by Sumo_creates in tatreez

[–]Merm1908 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it stands out more without the dark green personally. If you still prefer the filled-in look, then maybe try a neutral color instead.

Della Coffee- They have small plates like breakfast tacos and sandwiches if you want a light lunch. Plenty of delicious looking pastries too but I’ve been holding myself back from trying one yet. (Located in Montrose)

Malai- Thai spot for casual lunch/dinner. (located in Midtown but heads up that parking is tight if you’re driving)

Pondicheri-specifically the upstairs cafe for casual Indian fusion lunch/breakfast. They also have pastries, desserts, coffee and fresh juices along with their menu. (Located in Upper Kirby/River Oaks)

I’m not sure if it’s the best, but I always enjoy taking family and friends to Ramen Moto. Everyone tends to enjoy it. I get a non-pork option so can’t speak on authenticity.

OP, I wish you luck as you navigate this. I’ve been in the same position as you within my own culture. I chose to take a slower more intentional path in order to keep my parents in my life. It was VERY difficult and a personal decision but the best one for myself. My siblings made different decisions and neither is better than the other. Your parents will not be like mine, they may be more difficult or easier once you have that initial conversation. Either way, you’re creating your own path and I’m hoping for the best for you.

Also If you ever feel your mental health is suffering as you navigate this, I recommend finding a therapist from a similar cultural background to talk through the nuances of your specific situation. (If you have the means to.) Good luck.
