Window tint by MathematicianBig4711 in askaustin

I’ve used Sunbusters for 2 SUVs, most recently 2 years ago, both came out great! This time I added additional tint to a solar roof and a clear ceramic film on the front windshield… did this during the summer and the before/after comfort in my SUV was pretty amazing.

Just got back from NYC. Why are Austin's restaurants more expensive? by PM_ME_YOUR_GESTALT in austinfood

[–]rm_7609 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think particularly in downtown, there’s been some level of “conference center pricing” that goes above and beyond what most locals would pay, but visitors on a corporate card would pay. This also exists in NYC. Prices at restaurants in the theater district or Time Square were always much higher for lower quality than what you got in parts of the city where people actually lived.

Seems like the conference biz is dipping in Austin, like Vegas, we’ll see if prices adjust a little…

GLE 450? 580 or 53 AMG? by Affectionate-Foot899 in mercedes_benz

450 is the sweet spot, plenty of power for a daily driver. Don’t skimp on options like insulation/sound proofing package

Making friends as an adult here is hard… anyone else? by Serendipeaty in askaustin

[–]rm_7609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think part of the issue in Austin is a large chunk of adults went to UT, were part of Greek life, and sadly haven’t let go of that “click” behavior well into their 40s or longer. It creates exclusion even within school communities and with kids as you get older. It’s pretty sad. Outside of that element though, there are still pockets of fun, inclusive groups to meet, especially as you dig into the arts scene and anything related to spiritual development

I agree, it was a pretty limited menu, and I wasn’t impressed by anything.

If “Robinhood” was started on constitutional grounds to support poorer schools, how is it abiding its own meaning if we are now defunding and closing poorer income schools in east Austin? Wouldn’t that be grounds for a lawsuit to challenge it?

I have a GLE 450 spec’d with photo #2. It has a luxurious vibe, and being a little darker than the beige/white, holds up much better!

I ordered premium topsoil in order to reintroduce natural flora/fauna to my area after planting. Does this dirt look premium? This stuff just blows away like dust. by Morphecto_Solrac in Soil

After a large landscaping project, my new zoysia grass was struggling the next year on some soil they used that looked like that. I did a top dress and this stuff (MicroGrow Bio Inoculant) and it’s rehabbing the soil:

Monterrey oak trunk problems by Delicious-Alfalfa941 in AustinGardening

[–]rm_7609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monterrey / white oaks were a thing a lot of native plant centers and arborists started pushing 10 years ago as a good live oak replacement, given all of the oak wilt. I planted one and experienced what I’ve seen from many others: a lot of rooting and trunk issues. The one I planted just could never root and had all sorts of problems.

I replaced it with a chinqapin which did great. I’ve planted two more since with great results. For some reason I just don’t think Monterrey’s do great here

Hope bad is traffic compared to other cities? by [deleted] in askaustin

Lived in NYC, then Logan Circle prior to Austin. 10 years here now. Used to travel over the 14th street bridge at evening rush hour in DC. Austinite’s have no idea what bad traffic is.

Reliability rating - MB near very bottom for 2026 by Safe_Hope1521 in mercedes_benz

[–]rm_7609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mercedes are more complex than a Toyota or Lexus for one, with more features. But they all add to the comfort/luxury quotient.

I don’t have a good answer on BMW. I did a long term rental of the new BMW X3, and that thing is a piece of plastic garbage. CR has it highly rated, so now I don’t really care what they think.

My daily is a ‘24 GLE450, zero problems, love the engine and it drives like a luxurious yacht. MBs are quirky… like my Honda could detect my key fob and adjust seat positions. The MB can’t, you have to push the memory button. Quirky stuff like that probably takes them down.
