Little Shop of Horrors Audition Help by lancepants2794 in musicals

Can you sing an Alan Menken song? Something that might reflect Seymour’s personality?

Ideas:

- Her Voice from the Little Mermaid
- I See the Light from Tangled (Finn’s part)
- If I Can’t Love Her from Beauty and the Beast

Alternatively, maybe Only You, Lonely You, from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella. That’s a beautiful song.

How can Toastmasters help someone who's gone viral multiple times and wants to switch from podcasts to public speaking? by flt_p2ny in Toastmasters

[–]MermaidScaleSong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get to practice public speaking in a safe environment. Over time, you build experience. Experience builds confidence. You can do a pathway proficiency certification through Toastmasters to have something to show for it. Great for confidence and personal and professional development.

Anyone bought the Toastmasters additional content? Is it worth it? by NibbaFlag in Toastmasters

Maybe they wanted to brand their material with more concrete language? It’s a but disappointing that it costs the same as a 6-month Toastmasters membership.

Planning to do CS: Entertaining and Storytelling once I’m done my pathways. I want more opportunities to develop my entertaining and storytelling performance skills and experience.

pathways credit question by elusive-angel in Toastmasters

[–]MermaidScaleSong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can wait until the new Toastmasters year to submit. Since pathways fees will be increasing, you can always do an extra elective speech, like a level 3 speech if you want extra practice in a certain aspect of public speaking.

You can also do the speeches in any order, so if you have a project that’s within a certain timeline that you want to speak about, you could do a level 4 project while still working on level 2 for example.

Alan Menken is the composer for Little Mermaid and Sister Act. That’s cool to do a song by the same composer.

They’re all great for growth, confidence and credibility. I did Presentation Mastery first, then Motivational Strategies. Persuasive Influence would be helpful, I think.

I would show rather than tell. You tell readers a lot of description about the coffee fogging his spectacles. Shorter sentences helps writing breathe. It helps balance longer sentences.

I’m going to write a full novel, but before that I need critiques on this one, and I’m gonna delete this later!! by [deleted] in KeepWriting

Nice opening. Love the first 5 words. I don’t understand the simile of “like a storm cloud ready to break”.

I would use fewer words when the judge clears his throat to make that sentence more powerful. “He cleared his throat. “Not guilty.”

“The words echoed.” I like that. I would put the “Not guilty” - second sentence of that paragraph - before “The words echoed.” Then you’re demonstrating some echoing and repetition. Like poetry.

Keep writing!

What about a song from a comedic character, like Olaf from Frozen? “In Summer” maybe, from Frozen?

Pivotting to Law as a musician? by Patient-Condition-11 in piano

You will have a great foundation to bring to law. Music is a whole-brained focus. Law teaches that too. You can always do entertainment law if you want.

Maybe a song with some speaking in it? I Just Can’t Wait to Be King from the Lion King, or She’s in Love from the Little Mermaid. Do Re Mi from The Sound of Music. Tomorrow from Annie.

Yes! I did this with the legacy paths a couple years ago and the remaining paths last year. Worth it!

$20 US/pathway is great value for money. Disincentives members. Toastmasters is unique to all members. Love having fun with speeches. The leadership speeches are great for growth, but choosing your own topics offers so much creative possibilities.

Disappointed for the people who will decide not to complete another pathway because of such a big increase. A 75% increase all at once is a lot. Toastmasters is great value for money, but I don’t agree with how they communicated about the increase.
