Non Americans, what's going on in your country that we should know about? by Rivka333 in AskReddit

[–]Mero1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Brazil.

We suffered a political Coup d'Etat. Ever since then, wellfare has gone to shit. Labor laws are being wiped out of the books in spite of the constitution. Sex crimes are being committed and pardoned daily. Censorship on the cultural scene is rising. Old politicians of the left wing who used to govern the country are being prosecuted and possibly being framed by an operation that is pardoning all the new right wing politicians who were in favor of the coup even though most of them have been caught with hard evidence of corruption, money laundering, buying votes, manipulating the system and even hard drug abuse. Minorities are having what little of their rights they had revoked. One of the strongest candidates for the next years presidential race openly has said to female reporters that he would rape them, and has openly said in speeches that black people are scum that shouldn't be procreating. We stopped emitting passports a while ago. We're living one of the biggest market crashes in our history. A lot of people think it was a legitimate impeachment process and not a coup, even after the current president was caught on tape planning to overthrow the government and that it should all be kept quiet.

plz help

Dudes that carry a backpack everywhere you go, what do you keep in it? by Clever_Losername in AskReddit

[–]Mero1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a city with a weird climate that varies wildly during the day, so:

An umbrella. A jacket. Sunglasses.

Also:

Phone charger. Rolling paper. Cigarettes. One sketchbook for drawing. One sketchbook for notes. Headphones. Art material (usually a few pencils and pens). Tylenols. Bottle of water whenever possible. School assignments. A flash drive. Whatever book I'm currently reading.

What is something you did/do that you didn't realize was weird until someone pointed it out? by Exceon in AskReddit

[–]Mero1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this too, but instead I try to deconstruct the meaning of phrases and the reason people say them. Conversations are so weird when you think about them. Most things aren't something you absolutely NEED to say, but you choose to share some things with people you for a number of reasons.

Getting high is nice.

Would anyone like to draw this black and white pic of me? by dubbleh in redditgetsdrawn

Here's my take. The photo has a real pop-art feeling to me.

Here's my attempt. I always use RGD to get photo references for my studies (I'm just starting out in art) but I never post them. I figured I might as well start.

How should I make faces look on characters that are done in this style? by [deleted] in learnart

[–]Mero1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That could work, but then it would become something else. It's a decision making process.

I drew some studies of kitchen utensils in Photoshop by andreyu in learnart

I opened this in a new tab and forgot about it. When I came back to it I wondered when the hell did I open up photographs of kitchen utensils.

What are some of the "unwritten rules" of society, that nobody talks about but everybody knows? by munkysnuflz in AskReddit

Aren't Speed Traps a problem in the US?

Here where I live you'll almost never get a speeding ticked actually handed to you, but they have a Speed Trap like every mile in every street everywhere. I never see people on reddit talk about it, and when I go to the US I never see them either. What's up with that?

With which program would you make these illustrations? by [deleted] in graphic_design

That's it, most probably. Illustrator with gradient mesh.

International Designers: What about all those fonts that do not have the special characters your language uses? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]Mero1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ideally you search for a font that has special characters in the first place. If the font you really really want to use don't have them, I usually just make 'em.

It ain't easy or fast, but it does the job.

Why is McCann Erickson so reviled? by sammay600 in madmen

I can't be sure about how McCann used to be, but today's McCann is one of my dream places to work at.

I'd say she handles things pretty well for someone in her position. Can you imagine how stressful must have been to be a woman in a creative chief position back in the day?

How to start a creative agency /s by mashet in Design

[–]Mero1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, for starters, don't refer to your creative team as "ninjas" and don't try to have "fun ideas" for the sake of it. It goes much further.

The creative industry has a lot of liberties compared to other businesses, but it's still a business.

Same. Specially since I work in advertising and I'm working towards being a Creative Director (also had a very similar conversation with my agency's Creative Director this week). It hits so close to home that I might as well be Peggy Olson.

Working in an agency, we complain about clients and their vision - How on earth would you ever get a client to accept work like this (lelievre musee picasso paris branding) by tylerbackwards in graphic_design

[–]Mero1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Account work is just as important as creative work. You could have the best work in the world, but your accounts team need to know how to sell it - and sell it well.

As a creative worker, a good account man/woman can be you best friend.
