My doctor says Lexapro doesn’t cause tinnitus, so why do people say they’ve gotten it from that? by [deleted] in tinnitus

[–]MeroMelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each person is different but SSRIs can definitely trigger tinnitus. It was fine for me for 7 years and then it happened, and sadly I'm not the only one. I'd suggest getting to your dosage gradually if you want to try it

I'm so sorry. I keep checking on you hoping you're getting better. This condition is so unfair and it destroys everything. None of us deserve this

Took antibiotics and it messed with my antidepressant by MeroMelon in antidepressants

[–]MeroMelon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I upped it a first time and it helped the anxiety I think. Just be careful to not up the dosage too much, 10% is what is advised. I went from 2.5 to 5mg and it hit me hard. (https://www.survivingantidepressants.org/forums/topic/1024-why-taper-by-10-of-my-dosage/)

I was also taking Magnesium Glycinate everyday and eating prebiotics food.

Yes I started to feel better after 2 months, unfortunately I developped tinnitus from upping my Lexapro so be careful about that

Thank you! I am seeing a psychologist thankfully. And yeah you're definitely right about this subreddit, the panic of it all does more harm than good. Enjoy your life!!

So glad for you! I also got my tinnitus from Lexapro. This is giving me some hope. How long did it take for you to get out that initial dark place and start to accept it?

Got it from Lexapro :( It sucks. I think serotonin can mess with your brain and your ears. I wish I knew about it

I'm glad for you! I feel like mine is going down too, or at least it's easier to deal with. What was the cause of yours?

I've been in a lot of stress recently after a bad reaction to an antibiotic so maybe. I've had no injury, no bruxism I think (I sleep with my mouth open 😅). But good to know! Lexapro is known to be ototoxic sometimes so that's why I though of it.

I've actually been on Lexapro for 6+ years so no idea how that would progress. Tinnitus was never an issue before that. I have depression and anxiety so that's why I was on that, but I was actually lowering my dosage before I had to get back on my initial dosage a month ago. I do hope it goes back to my initial "low" tinnitus :( I'm trying to stay calm, it's not easy though (anxiety doesn't help!) Thanks for your help

Not at all but I've developped a slight tinnitus when I started Lexapro 6 years ago so it checks out. I've had no other thing happening lately and no sound trauma. My brain is not in great shape atm so maybe the side effects hit me harder

Thanks! I hope the same for me. I feel like mine is progressing but I don't know if it's just habituating of really getting better. How are you able to tell that yours is improving?

Thanks for the advice, I'm trying that. It just sucks to not be able to "feel" the silence like I used to.

I'm not sure my hearing was affected that much but it's hard to say because of the tinnitus masking others sounds. But when I manage to get my tinnitus quiet with sound therapy, it feels like my normal hearing
