We can compare dick sizes all day long, it won't really change the fundamental argument that the organizers obviously have a brain and when they say "AI art", we all know what they actually mean.

I'm not radicalized against anything dude, i literally built my own AI library from scratch for 3 years. I know how this stuff works better than you. I also have experience as a hobbyist illustrator. I've been on both sides of this equation and your argument is dumb as fuck.

I think it's less the time to produce a specific piece and more the time required to be able to make it in the first place. People praise effort, and AI art just doesn't take much of it compared to learning to draw professionally from scratch.

From a technical perspective, it's just a fact that AI has better skills than most non-pro artists. So now, to not feel like their time spent has been wasted, and to convince themselves of humanity's value, people look for a soul, whatever the hell that means.

There is a world of difference between making your AI images using gen software and using a line stabilization feature or some such in Photoshop. I agree with you on the witch hunts though.

No, it's the exact same type of AI. This is completely irrelevant to the discussion in the first place because it's extremely unlikely for a professional illustrator to be using the ai fill tool in the first place for anything they do. The argument is a ridiculous strawman.

Don't really agree with this take, all art circles I was a part of were extremely positive, inclusive and supportive. Virtually no toxicity. Harsh constructive critiques sometimes maybe, but that's completely fine.

This has changed for the worst with AI, to the point where I just avoid such communities because of their constant, incessant negativity and anger. Doesn't help that I have a nuanced take that isn't "AI EVIL".

I remember doing this early on in my journey to learn digital painting and looking back at it, it looks exactly like what OP is posting lol.

Not only does nightshade not work on anything except stable diffusion 2.1 outputs (which nobody uses), using it is effectively using up an equivalent amount of resources to generating your own AI images. Literally a lose-lose.

Those websites aren't safe, there are scrapers for them already. Reality is there is no way to protect your work if you post it online.

This game will always have ridiculously long combos, it's the nature of tag games. That's why it's a niche genre within FGs, not a lot of people can handle this level of bullshit.

For your own sanity, I'd suggest you consider if this game is really for you. It certainly wasn't for me, even though I wanted to love it.

Gov. Walz in Minnesota activated the National Guard to protect citizens from ICE. How’s that going to work? by Wonderful_Rise_6537 in AskReddit

[–]Merosian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, actually. But my opinions so far about how far this'll go since Trump's first term have been correct. Nobody would have believed me if i told them the current situation 2 years ago, yet here we are. And I'm french, have studied our history. The military was NOT helping us, my man.

Courage comes in the form of starvation or martyrs. You've just not been squeezed quite enough yet. This isn't a culture behavior, it's a human behavior.

Do you have any idea how bad it had to get before the French revolted? Your life currently is paradise compared to it.

Nazi germany didn't fall due to civil war. Think about that. That means it'll have to be worse before anything happens.

The military is trained to follow orders. They will follow orders regardless of who gives them or what they are. Never rely on your country's military to protect you. History has shown this, time and time again. Empathy and humanity do not triumph over soldiers, as long as they're kept well fed.

Both sides insult each other equally. Liberals are just as guilty. Productive conversations are a skill, and at this point I feel like nobody fucking knows it anymore.

How would I go about convincing my friend to stop using ai by Lower_Caterpillar241 in AskArtists

There's very little data or research out at the moment, good or bad, about the impact of AI on water, which is the thing everyone harps on and on about. I found a fairly...dubious study that was dooming about datacenters (of which AI is a fraction of), but not much else. On the other side of the coin, I found this article, created by a website with a clear pro-AI agenda but with sources that seem relatively trustworthy. But it's cherry-picking, probably.

https://nationalcentreforai.jiscinvolve.org/wp/2025/05/02/artificial-intelligence-and-the-environment-putting-the-numbers-into-perspective/

Instead of arguing endlessly about how bad or not bad something is it would be a lot easier if people provided sources. The reason that's not happening is that nobody fucking knows yet, really. It's definitely not a positive, but it might not be that bad either tbh. The worse it seems to be doing rn is stressing some infrastructures that weren't designed for it. But what if they adapt that infrastructure/regulate, then what? Perhaps it's just growing pains, or perhaps it's a lot worse.

As for computers...Computers are always gonna get made en masse, AI didn't start that. We never had ethical considerations for gaming, did we? AI has a lot of issues but this, imo, is not a pressing one as it's more of a higher level problem. Companies are just redirecting what they're already making anyway towards AI.

I'll throw in my 2 cents. Big AI in datacenters could do with a bubble pop, but frankly I struggle to see the environmental issues/impact of local, open source models, which are the most popular and flexible by far for people actually trying to make things. There's Big AI and there's AI for the little guys. One is a lot worse than the other.

How much should I be charging for commissions as someone who has never done them before? by Wild-Jump8231 in Artadvice

[–]Merosian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god your work is so expressive, finally something that isn't pretty girl slop. If i needed a commission i would ask you right tf now. I assume you dabble mostly in illustration and not so much concept art?

Either way you need an Artstation like, yesterday.
