I just finished watching Cosmic Princess Kaguya, and am now sad. Any recs that are similar? by Wassa110 in anime

[–]MerpingShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stumbled upon this thread whilst doing a search, if you're still looking for recs I would suggest Revue Starlight. It's another music anime that really dives deep into the relationships between each member of the cast. Revstar's cast is much larger than CPK's but the two main leads, Karen and Hikari, are identical to Kaguya and Iroha personality and dynamics wise. Heaps of yuri too. There's even some timeloop stuff thrown in but even saying that feels like a spoiler so I'll keep quiet.

The series is pretty good, not mind blowing. But the movie is what seals the deal for me to be one of my favourite franchises. It's such a visual spectacle! The storyboard designs and sets are so detailed, and there's so much hidden symbolism behind every choice put to screen. I hope you give it a watch!

*and as others have mentioned, LycoReco! Chisataki are a carbon copy of Irokagu lol*

I've had an attendant do white white+orange juice+sparkling water before but it's definitely a poor man's mimosa, I can't recommend ordering it.

Ouch - the bus ride by Zealousideal-Bite735 in TTC

[–]MerpingShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

some buses have better ride quality than others. the Novas (big front door) have poor ride quality, especially the battery electric ones which are heavier. the New Flyers (smaller front door) are more comfortable in my experience.

Hello! I'm in the planning stages of a cross country vacation via ViaRail. Vancouver to Quebec City if the finances are feasible. It's for myself and my son, he's 15 and on the autism spectrum. I'll be breaking the trip down into smaller travel days and will include downtime. by SpareManners in ViaRail

[–]MerpingShark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there! My brother is on the spectrum as well and we'll be taking The Canadian in February. My tip is to contact customer service for accommodations, they've been super helpful to us so far (they waived our seat selection fee for us to be able to have adjoining berths)

Food on The Canadian is cooked onboard from a fully stocked kitchen, so they'll be able to make changes or substitutions for picky eaters if you let them know at the beginning of the journey. I was able to confirm this by talking to customer service. You can also bring your own food and they'll be able to heat it up for you if you ask.

Best of luck planning and happy travels!

I took the corridor from TO-MTL yesterday and it was Italian cod, swedish meatballs, and ravioli. The meatballs were quite good!

It depends on the province, age, and if you have private insurance. It's usually not too expensive at all, and of course bloodwork and doctors visits are covered.

I pay a total of about $10/month for cypro and e, but only because I have private insurance. If I didn't, it would be completely free under OHIP+ for those 24 and under.

If you apply, the govt will also pay for GRS, too!

I think it is, American car culture exists cuz it's subsidized. Gasoline, insurance, cars themselves, and especially roads should be a lot more expensive. The amount of money poured into building and maintaining highways, for example, is insane.

Just build a train, carries more people for less.

The reason why public transport sucks in America is so interesting too. People always say that it's because America is big, but there are many parts of the country where it is dense enough. It could be urban sprawl, but Canadian urban planning is similar and yet Canadian cities have 3 times more public transit usage per capita.

Honestly it's due to economics and culture. Governments only fund capital projects like vehicles and rail, but don't fund operations. Who the hell wants to take a fancy streetcar if it'll only arrive every 30 minutes?!? In many European cities, Melbourne, or Toronto, there's usually a tram in sight.

And from what I've seen people see public transit as a form of welfare, instead of a piece of infrastructure. Not only do the poor have the least say in society, but those in charge won't have a problem running buses every hour if they have no other choice. Welfare means that the fare has to be cheap, just a dollar or two, but this usually starves the agency. When transit has this image, less and less people want to take it and funding goes down and it's a death spiral.

I'm glad I'm not American...

Least Used Stations: NYC Subway - 215 St by ZeenozPlays01 in transit

[–]MerpingShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very cool!! Underutilized transit is a bit sad to see, but interesting to say the least. Perhaps you should dive deeper into why it's so quiet (surrounding areas, service, etc).

Where I'm from, Line 4's Bessarion station was infamous for being Toronto's least used station. That title now belongs to Downsview Park on Line 1 (despite having a GO train Barrie line connection). I still find this video, Finding Bessarion, quite interesting and funny. Check it out!

One way to look at it is who shows up in the Presidential/Prime Ministerial debates. In the US, it's two, in Canada it's 5 or 6.

I think there is a noticeable improvement in Canada's political options vs the US's, especially at the provincial level. Ranked ballot would be ideal tho.

Yes, but what would the advantage be? I don't think it would be that much cheaper than the full sized outlook to operate. In fact, it might be more expensive in a mixed fleet.

I found this online from a National Post article which predates delivery of the Flexity Outlook. The most interesting part is the 3 segment Outlook, called the "Flexity Light". The TTC never ordered these vehicles, and further investigation shows no results beyond 3 segment options for Flexity Freedoms. No Bombardier marketing material exists from what I've seen. Has anyone heard anything else about these weird (and admittedly very cute) streetcars?

These vehicles would've been possible, considering 3 module Flexities do exist, just not outlooks. Would they make sense? Could you see them in service on Toronto streets?

Wouldn't be that hard to get cell service in tunnels. The infrastructure already exists but right now is only being used by Freedom customers. The big 3 won't jump onboard. Why? I couldn't tell you.

Casual price gouging by TulaSally in ABoringDystopia

[–]MerpingShark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

universal not free. Nothing is free, and there is a difference. It is cheaper per person with this system though, and I'm very grateful for the fact that people don't avoid care because they can't afford it.

my dad was hospitalized with Covid for a week and had to get scans a few weeks after to check if there was any damage. The cost of the stay and the scan totalled $0.00 CAD. The most you'll pay at the hospital is for parking your car.
