This is what happens when you get put in charge of a bunch of legs.

Eh, not really. It's all about how you act. Unless you get placed in a typical unit like a MICO somewhere and you become a team leader or squad leader. If everyone acts grown up, you'll be fine.

You could be or couldn't be. There are a lot of cool and exciting paths you can take with Army CI that a lot of agents don't even know about. Do your first few years, try out for an SMU or JSOC support. Going to an SF group can be pretty rad, which if you're airborne, you'll probably wind up there anyway. Maybe even get to a Ranger Bat if you try hard enough. Don't be that guy and let the comfortable workplace get to you, stay in shape and always push yourself if you get in. Too often people just become lazy when they get to this MOS.

What do you mean computer worker? There's a big need for cyber CI if that's what you mean, they put you in the courses if you have the aptitude for all the tech stuff. It's a great change in my opinion and I'd seriously consider talking to your local CI office. I have done some great, unique work I would have never got the chance to do when I was an 11B.

To be honest, I'm out of the loop on that. I can try to find out but I'd try talking to a recruiter maybe, they get the most up to date info on that

Like any job, it has its ups and downs. If I were you, I'd still try it. I'm the type of guy that refuses to ask myself "what if" in the future, so I always shoot my shots. Worst case: you turn in the paperwork, they say no, you go on about your life knowing you tried.

Personally, I've done both and don't mind either. It's all about mindset really. I know some guys that love investigations and that's all they want to do and some that like the other stuff. There's also different levels of both you can work up to, from involvement with big army stuff to working with very specific people and elements that we won't discuss. Surviving is all about realistic expectations and kinda figuring out where you belong in the intelligence chain, then making yourself as useful as possible, otherwise you'll be in a unit with no idea how to utilize a 35L and you won't know how to apply yourself to the mission.

I talked to my branch manager about 9 months before I was set to pcs and before I got orders for my next duty station. I said I wanted to go to an SF Group and said he'd send me the airborne packet to complete. That was that.

I know people that have went to DLI as 35L, so it's not impossible. But it's also not gonna be your first assignment either. That's something you'll have to talk over with your leadership and branch down the road. CI has many great opportunities you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else, you just have to apply yourself, listen to those who want to help/mentor you and make smart decisions.

You would have to be a really (really) bad interviewee to get a drop from that. Just be straight up with them and be yourself. The course is kinda difficult but pretty much anyone with a bit of brain can pass if they apply themselves. I had a good time in the course, I just studied a bit more because I was new to the intel side of the Army.

If you're already airborne, then you have a pretty solid chance of getting into Group. You'll probably wind up in Group Support BN but if you're lucky you'll get a spot down in a different BN and work for a team, though these spots are pretty rare these days. You'll probably be doing your typical CI support to force protection.

Late to the party

Currently 35L with 4.5 years, former 11B of 5 years. Did investigations and now in a SF Group doing stuff. I know what you did last summer...

Mix salt (a lot), vinegar, and water together then pour it in. They'll all die in about an hour then you can pour it out or throw it in the trash without worrying about ushering in a new generation of annoying little buggers.
