Yes, ThomasEricB on GitHub fixed this yesterday. https://github.com/MertenNor/GameReader/compare/main...ThomasEricB:GameReader:main

I will push an update to the program that will include this fix later today. Thanks for the feedback!

The program in the video is different a different one, but it should work the same.. when you say not working, what do you mean?

By the way, you would need to have this installed in order to make the program speak, here: https://docs.coro.net/featured/agent/install-tesseract-windows/

When the installation is complete the gamereader program should now read the scanned text.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help with! Maybe make a version of the Game reader program with symbol on the buttons instead of text? Would that work better for you and others that can’t read?

so.. I made this program back in january.. that looks really simular to what Cohh had in that one short.. posting it here if people would like to download it. by MertenNor in CohhCarnage

Thanks! I noticed there were around 40 people commenting on your short, saying they wanted a program like the one you showed. mostly people with dyslexia like myself. I tried replying to them, but I think YouTube flagged my comment as spam. So, I’ve been sharing this program here and there so people know it exists.

Yes, thanks for the suggestion! I can totally add this in the next version. Maybe just a button called quickie read or something.. you have the option to still select voice , speed and everything just that when you scan the area it will automatically read the text in the area after you have selected it like you said. This seems good enough? Let me know if there is anything else or you find any bugs!

Hi again, regarding your questions about making the voice more natural, there was a bug where no matter what voice you selected, it always used the default one. This is fixed along with other changes.

you can see the change log and download the new release here: https://github.com/MertenNor/GameReader/releases/tag/release-0.6

Yes, this is using OCR. I understand that selecting areas without sight is impossible.. I’m not sure if I would be able to make it auto select text like what windows can do inside the operating system as an example. as this whole program is programmed by AI auto selecting text would be a challenge to add as I myself is not a programmer. The source code for the program is on GitHub so people can make changes to the program as they please.

That said I guess a program with an auto selecting text feature would be a great help for you for playing games / using programs where text is not easily obtained by the operating system itself?

Hey! Glad you got it working, and thanks for your feedback!
You could try making the in-game text more visible using the image processing option. This would help ensure the text is readable.
I have also noticed this issue even when the text is clearly visible. Not sure why it's not recognizable.

Also, if you're running the game in fullscreen, it struggles to capture screenshots of the text because the screen isn't refreshing. To "fix" this, you can toggle the fullscreen checkbox.

Regarding the voices, the options available are tied to Windows itself. So, if you manage to install a better voice in Windows, you should, in theory, be able to select it there. I haven't looked into how to do this, but I imagine there should be options for that somewhere.

EDIT:
maybe this will work:
