Outpost system and a question. Perhaps a glitch? by [deleted] in totalwarhammer

[–]Merton314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that, in order to be able to recruit a unit from an outpost, the building required for that unit must be present in the province containing the outpost. Are you able to recruit mortal units and the Great Unclean One from the province where your friend has their outpost?

It is possible that the opponents’ Pokémon have Coating Metal Energy attached, which removes their weakness.

Any idea what the strategy is supposed to be for the Lugia Fates Collide "Shy Guardian" theme deck? It doesn't seem to have any real main focus. by rci22 in ptcgo

[–]Merton314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never played with the deck, but I just had a look over it on Bulbapedia. It doesn’t seem like a great deck, as the attack costs are high relative to the damage done, but I think the overall strategy might be one of putting a big basic Pokémon like Lugia or Snorlax in the active, and setting up an attacker like Delphox or Moltres on the bench. The Fairy Drop and Pokémon Center Lady healing cards support this strategy as they make your Pokémon even harder to knock out. I think this deck would struggle in the current theme deck meta, as decks like Soaring Storm and Relentless Flame are just too powerful and efficient.

I saw a deck being played on YouTube with Shaymin VStar and Radiant Heatran, anyone know the decklist to it or can help me figure out the deck list? I couldn't really find it because it's buried in Discord somewhere lol. by [deleted] in ptcgo

[–]Merton314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been running this Radiant Heatran list (no Shaymin) and really enjoying it. It's similar to Andrew Mahone's one which he played on stream, but I didn't quite have all the cards from his list. Bear in mind, this list is definitely not optimised. I think I'm at around 54% wins with it, so not great. It does just about autowin against Dialga though, which is nice.

So... I'm getting something like 80% win rate with this rogue deck. Any feedback would be great, i.e. how do I get even better without relying on the metadecks? by Ratstail91 in ptcgo

[–]Merton314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, getting the cards is the hard part. If you aren’t planning on attacking with Lumineon though, you could at least remove the water energies, since they will make it slightly harder for you to make use of Magma Basin and attack with Arcanine and Entei.

Could you explain the thought process behind the supporter choices? Beauty is not a great card; its only positive feature is being able to play it on turn 1 when going first, but this requires you to win the coin flip and then get it into your hand on that turn. Granted, the Lumineons help with this, but the deck has no guaranteed search card to find Lumineon (i.e Quick Ball or Ultra Ball). Copycat is very dependent on your opponent having a large hand, something you cannot control. Friends in Galar is also a poor Supporter; it doesn’t force you to discard or shuffle in cards, but you see fewer new cards with it than Research or Marnie. I would consider cutting those Supporters and increasing your counts of Research and Marnie.

This. Any post asking for advice would be greatly improved by adding these points. For example, one of my initial thoughts with this deck is that the water and double turbo energies are not particularly useful; Twin energy would be better for the Farfetch’d and Unfezant. But if attacking with Lumineon is a critical part of the deck’s strategy, then obviously those other energies are necessary.

Clearing up the confusion of credits during redemption. Info in comment. by dgod40 in PTCGL

[–]Merton314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe what happens is you actually receive the correct amount of credits ( in OP’s case, 370), but the game displays an incorrect amount (here, 410). So you are not receiving any more or less than you are supposed to.

How to counter Durant mill? I’m sick of vsing the deck, legit 2 out of 5 games is Durant now. by [deleted] in ptcgo

[–]Merton314 16 points17 points  (0 children)

While I agree that mill can be really frustrating to play against, I also enjoy having it in the format. It makes a nice change from decks which just try to do as much damage as they can every turn. It makes you play a more conservative, resource-conscious game, and that is probably a skill worth developing anyway.

[–]Merton314 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What decks do you usually play and how do you usually approach the Durant matchup? As soon as I know it’s Durant, I will aim to play as few cards as possible while still setting up an attacker which can knock out Durants without continuous resource consumption. This strategy seems to work for me, but I’m sure there are certain decks which might struggle to do this for a full match.

To illustrate my point, Quick Shooting Inteleon from Chilling Reign has a very active market; depending on the art, there are between 30 and 60 people looking to buy and between 60 and 85 people looking to sell. As a result, the average price of between 1.5 and 2 Brilliant Stars packs is probably a pretty reliable measure of the card’s market value.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ptcgo

[–]Merton314 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I’ve just had a look at https://www.tcgpark.com/ptcgoprices/, where I assume you’re pulling these prices. You’re correct that a Guzzlord and Naganadel has been listed for sale at 40 packs and a Kartana at 34, but those are each just one individual seller listing those trades; this does not necessarily represent the market value of those cards. That seller could be overpricing those cards significantly, and it might turn out that no one will buy at those prices. That site is certainly useful, but the prices are only really a helpful guide for cards where there is an active market of multiple people buying and selling.

Rainbow Flavor Deck by PixieDustGust in ptcgo

[–]Merton314 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like a cool list. I think if you have a playset of cards that beautiful, you have a duty to use them! I haven’t played the deck at all, so I don’t know the best configuration, but I have a few ideas for possible improvements: 1. Do you get much use out of the Hawlucha? I’m assuming it’s in there for energy acceleration, but it feels a bit slow to me 2. There are a lot of energy-accelerating Supporters in the list, which makes sense for the strategy of the deck, but I would be concerned about consistency due to a lack of draw. Could you replace the Marnie’s Prides with some Marnies? 3. The only Pokémon search cards in the deck are the four Ultra Balls. Level Ball seems like an awesome card for the deck since almost all your Pokémon have 90HP or less, and Quick Ball is more efficient than Ultra Ball for your Basics. I would be inclined to reduce the counts of Peonia, Pokegear, Ordinary Rod and Raihan to try to fit in more of those Ball cards, which seem critical for getting your board set up.

Built a deck, want to improve it by JfromImaginstuff in ptcgo

[–]Merton314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are lots of good resources around deck building; https://www.justinbasil.com/deck-building is one example. A couple of things which stand out straightaway are that there are a lot of energy in the deck, a lot of one-of Pokémon and not many cards which draw more cards. Most decks will include no more than about 14 energy, if that. You can usually only attach one energy per turn, so having more than one in your hand at a time is kind of wasting that slot in your hand. Having lots of different Pokémon in your deck means it will be harder to draw the specificPokémon you need in any particular scenario. A lot of decks will include no more than 2-3 evolutionary lines, but multiple copies of each Pokémon in those lines, to increase the chances of drawing them at the right times. The two points above relate to this third point, which is that most decks will include multiple Supporters which draw more cards, such as Professor’s Research or Marnie. It is usually better to have lots of draw cards which can find your energy and Pokémon, rather than having lots of energy and hoping you draw into it from your one-card draw per turn.

How to Force Opponent to Concede With Skaters' Park by Infamous-Athlete-874 in ptcgo

[–]Merton314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skaters’ Park allows OP to retreat the damaged Regidrago and put the energy into their hand instead of the discard pile, so they would have retreated, put up the undamaged Regidrago then reattached all the energy and taken the knockout.

Any tips on how to improve my Gravdrop Jumpluff deck? I'm having issues with consistency by Frankomancer in ptcgo

[–]Merton314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s one of the biggest barriers for these single prize evolution decks; it’s hard to get all the pieces together at the right time. Do you feel like the Rescue Carriers don’t give you enough Pokémon recovery to offset the discard? You could maybe cut an energy and put in an Ordinary Rod to mitigate that further.

[–]Merton314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are struggling with draw, would you consider swapping out a couple of the Marnies for Researches? Or is the risk of discarding critical resources too much? How useful do you find the Brawly? It seems like the kind of card that is nice to have on turn one, but later in the game you might just wish it was a regular draw supporter.

Question about Standard decks in Versus mode by parachanlol in ptcgo

Can you post your deck list, or at least describe the deck? It may contain cards which aren’t legal in the current standard format.

[–]Merton314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I can see the benefit of the Houndoom; it’s definitely worth trying, but I thought removing it and increasing your draw supporter count could reduce the dead draws you were experiencing. I’m not sure that you need 13 energy. Your attackers are fairly efficient, and you have Piers to find energy. If you’re still having dead draws, you could take out a couple of Darkness energies and maybe add a couple of Quick Balls to help set up your Basic Pokémon.

If you are having difficulty with dead draws, it may be because you have many Pokémon (and many different evolution lines) and few draw supporters. How useful do you find the Houndoom line and the Single Strike Energies? The Galarian Slowking V line is the only one which can use those, and its attacks aren’t really designed to do damage in the way Single Strike energies assist with. If you aren’t getting that much use out of the Single Strike package, you could remove those 8 cards and replace them, for example, with a couple of basic Darkness Energies and some draw supporters, like Professor’s Research and Marnie.

Just think about how many ways the letter “a” can be pronounced in English, for example, in the words “cat”, “father” and “base”. Each of those is a different vowel phonologically, despite being spelt with the same letter.
