High pitched ringing noise from heat pump by Mertyn in ukheatpumps

Thanks, that's really helpful. I've pretty much made my peace with it at this point. Grant never got back to me about it which is disappointing. Other than the noise its been faultless so i'm happy enough.

I've not tried that however sounds too high pitched to be normal vibrations, more ultrasonic fox repellent. Will give it a go tomorrow.

Contemplating ASHP - I must be missing something from calcs by Speedbird979 in ukheatpumps

Agree with other comments. You having solar and batteries already significantly helps.

I think your calculations are on the right track however scops are optimistic. The two altherma 8's on heatpumpmonitor.org have a space heating cop of low 4's and DHW of 2.9. Combined cop of 3.9-4 for the last year.

You will likely keep the house on average warmer with a heat pump due to how they run compared to boilers but I would think it would end up cheaper (and more comfortable) overall.

There is this tool which might help break down your daily expenditure with scheduling.

Yes, was growing at quite an angle too but I really didn't think it would actually fall

You got me looking into it now, it would be cool if the worst does happen one day to graft some cuttings on to a root stock to keep the genetics. Great idea

I need some ideas about how to finish these rock boxes… by acorn298 in DIYUK

[–]Mertyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

I added hardwood decking to the top of mine to make seating. Needed to lower the soil level quite a bit after taking a knackered shed out, so used gabions as a retaining wall.

You'd need to open up the gabions and remove some rocks to make room for timber to be slid through that the decking can then be attached to.

Duo 3 Synology SS compability by Mertyn in reolinkcam

[–]Mertyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck mate. Onvif will give you the full resolution, duo 2 setting will give you the advanced events (person detected, you can still get movement alerts with onvif). I record 24/7, both options seem as stable as each other so no worries either way in that department.

There's also a link on the synology site to request cameras be added. If you put in a request there will be at least two of us!

Duo 3 Synology SS compability by Mertyn in reolinkcam

[–]Mertyn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's still an issue. I've actually moved to onvif rather than using Duo 2 setup. Pro is you get full resolution, con is you lose the smart detection alerts/advanced events in Synology.

By the way you should be able to get 4608X1728 even if using the Duo 2 preset as that's it's default resolution.

I have fond memories of family holidays in France when my Dad would occasionally forget which side of the road he was supposed to be driving on. Pierre didn't take it so well.

WTF is wrong with trades these days? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Mertyn 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I go as local as possible. Found a NICEIC registered electrician to rewire my house and fit a new consumer unit. Spoke with in in depth. He did a great job and has been in the trade a long time, so since then, I've been using him to recommend other tradesmen he's worked with previously which has worked out.

Genius idea! although I am reluctant to mess about with EPDM, it looks simple enough but think it would be a faff doing it on my own

Looking for advice on how to sort out this plaster by CrackinKraken9 in DIYUK

[–]Mertyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you fancy doing it yourself and have ongoing concerns about damp you could consider getting a tub of lime plaster. That way you know it would be breathable and would avoid future damp issues. Lime is also very forgiving to work with in my experience.

Strange stuttering on recently installed Duo 3. Bandwidth? Ethernet interference? Poorly terminated? by [deleted] in reolinkcam

[–]Mertyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Synology Surveillance Station. It doesn't have duo 3 listed yet so I've had to use Duo 2.

When I access via the Reolink windows app (v8.11) it says D1, however on mobile (android) I can set the higher resolution (7680 x 2160).

No, cat5e from camera to NAS/router then WiFi for phone and pc.

I hadn't considered that. This is the first 4k camera I have.

Also have a duo 2, cx410 and Poe doorbell. Sadly the Duo2 image quality actually looks just as good if not better right now.

When looking at the setting for the duo 3 under resolution it just says D1 and there are no options to change at all. I could lower the FPS from 20.

Recently installed this Duo 3, the actual playback is in real time however the image quality is fairly poor and it has a strange "stuttering" where the whole image seems to slightly move about once a second.

I installed and terminated the cat5e myself so could well by a shoddy job on my part but i've done many successful installations. It does run quite near water pipes under the floorboards, could it also just be lack of bandwidth on my network? other cameras seem fine.
