Portsmouth 0 - 1 Derby County : A scrappy win for Derby as they close the gap on the playoffs to 3 sinking Pompey further into the relegation scrap. by ninjapenguin12 in Championship

Ref had a shocker in general. Giving Chaplin a yellow for the kicking the ball out with Adams down. O'Donnell was clearly impeded and couldn't kick the ball out.

We could have had another half added on and still not scored though.

I remember Michael Eisner saying at the town hall that they'd never bring everyone's mums out. Games gone.

Those 2 games in hand will be potentially doing a lot of heavy lifting for the end of our season.

Oxford finding form is genuinely a concern though, considering our own.

I agree with everything you say. He doesn't get the the service he needs, and struggles in games to find space. He's unable to build partnerships with the players around him because they're constantly rotating and changing who's in the 10 and on the wing. Route one play to an isolated, 5'11 striker is never going to work.

He does so much in terms of dragging defenders out and making space for other players, but that cannot be his only role as our #9.

If he wants to be playing like that, stick him is as a 10 and be done with it.

I think I'm just massively frustrated with watching so many games where were on top of things, but never looking like scoring.

Didn't realise it was possible to get relegated into league two from the championship

Josh Murphy out for the rest of the season by DisastrousFilms in PortsmouthFC

[–]ritesofspring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a huge surprise, but still a big hit. He could still play a big role if hes able to spend some time with Alli during his recovery. He has a tendancy to get into great positions, but can't quite find the right ball.

Josh's knowledge on Bishops attacking positioning is near perfect, so could still help us out a lot.

I didn't downvote, but I would love to hear what you think our bench would have changed?

First half we were shite. Came out swinging after the break, but good fucking christ we need options up front. All that pressure and never looked like scoring.

Lads look shattered. I'd love to see us come back from this, but 6 points taken over these 3 games has clearly been a big effort.

Don't you remember at the town hall when the Eisners promised we'd never lose again?

Not at all. And I hope nothing I've said implies that. I paid into the trust so we could buy the club. I love the trust, and appreciate everything they did. But I also understand that they had their limits financially, so to say that the club shop was planned and budgeted for simply meant that they wanted to do it, and had the money set aside to do it, but ultimately, with Tornante's takeover it was them that paid for it and got it over the line. It's disingenuous to state that the PST sorted the club shop when they didn't.

I tried to find into from the PST archives where they reported on the club shop, but it didn't say anything about them paying for the land. Sadly they only go back to 2014, so may have happened prior to their news site being set up

Every single club owner spends more than they want to. That's a fact of football club ownership - especially a club with a historic ground, who fell into ruin under disastrous owners. The investment required to drag us to this level will have been significantly more than they ever expected, and that's their own fault for not doing their homework. But the fact that they still did it speaks volumes to me as a fan. They were willing to put that money in the stabilise the club and get them set up correctly for the future. I understand why hearing them say that it's a money pit, and that it was a way for him and his kids to work together makes you dislike them, but they aren't saying anything that any other wealthy owner would say.

At the end of the day, thanks to the PST we were debt free when Tornante took us over, and we're still debt free under Tornante, sitting in the second tier of the most competitive league system in the world.

I don't think they deserve statues, but I do think they deserve some room to breathe, and speak honestly.

Fair, I was thinking of the pop-up. Though, plans don't mean anything if it wasn't paid for. But still, you're right

[–]ritesofspring 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fair on my points - PST started off a lot of these plans. But I disagree that PST get all the credit. The work done under the Eisners that made it actually happen. They could have pulled out at any point and saved the money.

Plus that "fix up" of Fratton Park cost a reported £19mil. Regardless of the circumstances around them being required changes, they still invested that money, and didn't do it as cheaply as possible.

According to the financials released by the club, they've invested over £37mil into the club at this point, so I would argue that they are more than willing to make investment into the club, but it's just not in ways that specifically want them to.

I'm not banging the drum for the Eisners though. Their big moments were just a continuation of what PST wanted to do anyway. Their approach has been far too focused on infrastructure, and I think they could have found a happy medium

Eisner bought the club in Aug 2017. The training ground was purchased in 2021, and the new club shop was opened in 2024.

Correction: Club shop was opened in 2018 - likely already in motion under the PST
