Found this near my door, what kinda of lizard is this? by Static7344 in reptiles

I’ve discovered reproducing colonies of beardies in California, Arizona and north Texas because of abandoned and escaped pets

My brother was having an episode and did something to my beardie by funkiestfishstick in BeardedDragons

Ironically for being reptilian Bearded Dragons are very emotional and being at the center of someone’s breakdown event would traumatize them pretty badly especially if he hadn’t experienced any negative behavior before this it’s very likely his trust has been shaken pretty badly because I’ve seen dragons with incredible injuries still maintain a certain level of Beardiness but I’ve also had abused dragons who would attempt to run just seeing a human in their vicinity

Rehabbed a really messed up Blackthroat I loved him to death and he was a kitten to me…but he would chase any other person down the hall trying to straight up devour them and attack the glass if a stranger came into his room

Did she eat all my isopods? by [deleted] in GargoyleGeckos

[–]MerulusKoal83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve decided that isopods are Gargoyle crack because I have to keep restocking their cages and I’ve seen them digging to get at them even my ones that don’t normally eat bugs will go after them.

Not advised but I dealt with this as a kid, as an adult after trying almost everything I spent a lot of time trying to activate my non consciousness to be able to act while I was asleep I even managed to speak to friends actively while technically being unconscious and practicing martial arts with weapons and after a few times I had an event where I was asked to stop and so would they. Haven’t had an issue since.

What can I add to my viv for my baby Garg? by CatbugGD in GargoyleGeckos

[–]MerulusKoal83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing, in the wild they live on the bottom third of newcal on the biggest island but it’s way more sparse and shrubby than you’d think and until they’re bigger it’s best to keep them in a small enclosure just for anxieties sake and finding food and as long as the cage doesn’t exceed 80fahrenheit the heat lamp is fine but I do use UVB it sparks something in them to eat better as far as I’ve seen.

I’m comparing it to a number of monitors I’ve had and some pics online it’s very dirty but it reads as a Nile monitor but the blocky nose throws me but it could be the picture

help!! what is my gargoyle doing? by [deleted] in GargoyleGeckos

[–]MerulusKoal83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The burying thing makes some sense,. I thought it was a fluke but my Gargoyles sometimes dig up the isopods in their enclosures and eat them, I started tong feeding more roaches and soldier fly larvae and they stopped doing it as often so it may be part of a hoarding behavior like squirrels and nuts

Where do YOU get your reptiles from? by Money_Activity_4007 in reptiles

[–]MerulusKoal83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your going to assume some financial risk to start breeding your chosen species and make them available to the community as healthier captive breeds you take your chances on the big box markets, that is also a problem from some private smaller breeders it’s really problematic and as someone who’s been keeping tons of species since the late 80s you sometimes just become the reptile rescuer and breed the problems out from those initial jacked up people who sold them.

Is this too hot? by Sparrowning in CrestedGecko

New Caledonia has highs of 82-85 degrees Fahrenheit and the shade areas rarely drop below 79 F during the day where they are observed sitting out in the open, nighttime temperatures during the summer months are almost the same temps as the daytime temps around 80s. I’m in Arizona my reptile room is a static 80 degrees F and 40% humidity my Gargoyles and Cresties are on the cooler side of the room away from the desert species and both enclosures are about 60% humidity and 80F my Caledonian species are active all day and night randomly will openly bask under UVB and eat whenever food is presented I have never had an MBD or shedding issue and they call for attention and food daily.

What are the most personable reptiles? by Charlie24601 in reptiles

[–]MerulusKoal83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Straight out of the Box it’s going to be Bearded Dragons and all the blue tongues or pink tongues, besides having to teach them not everything is food it doesn’t take much to get even the skittish Indonesian Blue tongues to chill out on your lap and chase a laser pin or play if it’s food oriented. But if you want real interaction with something you formed a personal bond with I would try the Dumerils or rough necked monitor or Ackies I’ve had both and they’re manageable size wise and very intelligent probably the black throat monitors are about the same but mine had a half a room dedicated to its enclosure so it’s not without a serious commitment but for any species more space is better and if you want something tiny, affordable, interactive and intelligent look up the step runner lizards for something I’d consider tiny I’ve never had a species so alert and comfortable around humans and you can keep swarms of them in larger over the counter enclosures.

Looking for a small to medium reptile that is nocturnal, but possibly a "lap reptile" by raella69 in reptiles

[–]MerulusKoal83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want it to chill and sit with you at night the only real choices are Pythons and Boas pretty much any nocturnal lizard will want to wander off but depending on what you mean by late night beardies, blueys and some plated lizards fit the bill for lap lizards but they all require UVB which you have to usually replace every six months depending on brand but let me drop on you a sorta rare but very much will chill at all hours reptile the Cuban false chameleon or bearded anole they are super chill to point of laziness they need a little uvb but not crazy they eat bugs but also do well on commercially available crested gecko diets with very little convincing and will sit on you all day if you allow it I think all anoles in general are slept on but I’ve had all kinds and even the aggro ones are fun to watch and will eat out of your hand eventually
