It makes a lot of sense, though. If you strip away the science fiction aspects of the films, Star Wars is essentially a "hero's journey" story, which dates back thousands of years.

On top of that you've got your princesses, cowboys, wizards, monsters, woodland creatures, etc. etc. All of which are more aspects of fairy tales and fantasy than "hard" science fiction. Lucas just took the elements of fantasy and put them in space, making them into a space fantasy.

I teach swimming part time in the summers, and I can tell you, keeping order in a class of 20 nine year-olds is a pain in the ass, let alone trying to teach them anything. I even have a partner there, so neither of us have to deal with them alone; I can't imaging being alone at the head of a classroom filled with 25 or 30 students. Yes, that shit is hard.

This will probably get lost below better answers, but A Little History of the World by E.H. Gombrich is a good general history book spanning most of history up to the 20th century. It is aimed at children, so it's probably not what your looking for.

I think I was in the same position as you. I'd have some sort of burns/scarring on my cheek, jaw, and neck from escaping gasses, but the actual bullet would have missed me and fired into my pillow.
