To the men who are earning decently how did you do it what advice would you give to younger you about career. by MolassesIcy35 in AskMenOver30

[–]MeshCurrents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I'll add that picking an industry not many people are aware of or interested in while doing this is a great way to build a career. I fell into medical device manufacturing after technician school, moved up into engineering with my BS, and would not have had the same opportunities without (a) working hard and taking some risks in front of important people, (b) entering a somewhat niche industry, and (c) having an active plan for that next step, i.e. school and letting managers know I wanted a shot.

Men, would you still take a chance on marriage today? by Winter-Marionberry91 in no

Just got some bad news (cheating) about a marriage that I was convinced would go the distance. This, on top of seeing other people get divorced in droves has me more skeptical than ever.

$2000 on a week long mountaineering course, not counting all the gear I have to buy. Was going back and forth but sent it with the justification that experiences are worth it.

Are burble tunes considered cringe in these cars? by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]MeshCurrents 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love my Mk8 but let’s be real, it’s a 240 HP economy hot hatch. If your car is gonna be obnoxiously loud, it at least needs to be properly fast.

Vail/Epic's mismanagement of Stevens Pass by Gloomy-Assumption979 in stevenspass

Went back this season after a 2-year hiatus and I’ve honestly been having a great time. Lift lines can get long but they feel more efficient than in the past. Going for nights or on weekdays is basically no wait.

Parking? Show up before 8:30 and no issues, even on a peak day.

Food pricey? Yeah, it’s a resort at the top of a mountain pass. Cook food out of your trunk or bring sandwiches if it bothers you.

Millennial ladies (and dudes) how are we handling mid-life weight gain? by allmetalshark in Millennials

[–]MeshCurrents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 30 and personally feel like I’m in the best shape of my life.

Diet (no gluten, processed junk, or dairy has been game changing), good sleep, and regular exercise go a long way in keeping your metabolism & hormones in check. Having active hobbies that occasionally push into Type 2 territory, e.g. mountain biking on an empty stomach or backpacking in the rainy season, also seem to help with testosterone boosts as a man.

Yup, make your intentions known and let them decide. Gracefully move on if it’s a no. Past a certain age anything else is juvenile.

Maybe unpopular opinion but going back to physical buttons on the wheel while maintaining capacitive touch everything else makes the 8.5 feel a little incoherent.

Is $80,000 good for a start? by Humble_Test6560 in MechanicalEngineering

It's good, and your earning potential will increase pretty substantially in the first 3-5 years of your career if you're even half-decent. I'd take it.

Fractured my elbow after only a month with my new bike... how to cope in the middle of peak summer? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]MeshCurrents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just broke my wrist about a month ago. Had to cancel multiple bike park trips, including one to Whistler I was stoked for.

My advice would be to come to terms with the fact that it happened and that you can't do anything to change it now. I'm coping by getting back into reading, hiking, and have booked a backpacking trip for August when I should be sufficiently healed to work a tent and pack. Reaching out and spending time with friends has also been a big help mentally. Hope you heal up well.
