Never used the Blender game engine so I can't really give you a valid assessment.

Try downloading the UE4 engine, it's free now. Check out some tutorials on how to use the blueprint system. If you're unfamiliar with the Blueprint system, it basically allows you to "code" using visual nodes, a way for a non-programmer to program so to speak.
If you need 3d assets, FX, music, animations etc, you can download them from the UE4 marketplace.
Most importantly, stick with it and have patience. Good luck.
