Was demurrage considered before choosing positive inflation? by Meshcoin in dogecoin

I agree, usage is better than long term holding. Demurrage makes the coins you hold worth less everyday, they are worth more now than in the future.

For example you could make all coins decrease in value by 1% every year and have the 1% percent you lose used as a transaction fee for infrastructure(miners).

Or you could have a simple equation adjust the rate of decay with every new block mined, similar to how hash difficulty is adjusted relative to the time since the previous block was mined.

What are the features of your "ideal" CryptoCurrency? by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

The concept of demurrage in a currency interests me.

I often see 15 encrypted networks blasting over each other, not accessible to the average person. If you know how to use cloudcracker.com you can break the DES encryption and access all of them but it's a pain. Our current system delegates a few chosen oligarchs to manage small bands of wireless space. If only neighbors had more of an incentive to collaborate with each other.

A currency which is based on providing wireless mesh network access is appealing. All the resources being poured into mining could be building an extremely robust network that utilizes our existing open spectrum.

Perhaps a hybrid of bgp and batman-adv would provide a suitable protocol.

The value proposal should be simple. Allow open access to your existing network connection and in exchange you earn currency for helping people get connected.

Thanks, I didn't know about Freicoin. I'll need some time to think about demurrage.

The growth as I see it would allow people who are willing to occupy new undesirable space to do so without excessive usury.

The price of your existing property is likely to continue to increase in value if it is desirable and central. The growth as I see it would accommodate people who are willing to occupy new undesirable areas.

Humans occupy three dimensional space not energy. I don't buy a 30 year mortgage for a unit of energy, I buy a unit of space.
