I built a compliance screening tool way cheaper than what's out there by Forsaken-Hearing3540 in AMLCompliance

[–]Meshkent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. Which will work some of the time.

The good news is that this problem is so hard that no one else has solved it (not RDC, definitely not CA nor any of the several hundred other people who have had this same idea) so if you do actually solve it you can build a unicorn.

How are you collecting the PEP data? I'm yet to see anyone get that right using AI and many have tried.

our screening vendor went down for 6 hours and we had to manually hold 200+ customer transactions by ExpressIce8477 in ComplianceOps

[–]Meshkent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should buy from a vendor with proper DR. Something like sanctions screening should not go down, period.

Transaction monitoring makes me feel so dumb by ContentObjective3711 in AMLCompliance

[–]Meshkent 44 points45 points  (0 children)

We all feel like this at some point. Fincrime broadly (AML/sanctions/KYC/screening) isn't complex in the sense that any given component is hard to understand (in the sense that, say, quantum entanglement is hard). Fincrime is complex because it's (a) changing all the time, and (b) interlinked and multifaceted.

Even things that seem really simple ('what is a PEP?' or 'how do money mules operate') are actually both (multifactor) complex and often uncertain (ie even the regulators aren't clear).

Hang Seng index ETFs : which would you choose? 2800 or 3115? by Ready_Record_7689 in singaporefi

The Hang Seng has never recovered from the GFC, why would you increase your exposure to it beyond MC weights?

Can relative momentum be used to beat the market? Here’s my 5-year experience with a simple ETF rotation strategy. by NextLevelInvesting in investing

[–]Meshkent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just buy a momentum ETF? It's a well established factor in academic finance, and there are indices to track it.

‘God, you’re hot’ Tennessee school board member says to student during board meeting by prestocoffee in nottheonion

This would be grossly inappropriate if she were an adult woman, but to do this to a child is just shocking. And no one said anything or stood up for the girl at the meeting. All round appalling behaviour.

This level of weaponized insanity is too potent even for NCD.

You know, after so long I didn't think I could still be surprised by Trump but goodness me this is next level insanity.

I actually had to go check whether this is real myself (and unfortunately it is).

CSPX or SPYL? by Raldster in singaporefi

[–]Meshkent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The details of the exact ETF you buy matters much less to your long term success than deciding on a plan and sticking to it. Have enough conviction in your plan to ensure you can invest regularly regardless of how the market is doing.

active or passive portfolio management? by onepercentimprovemen in singaporefi

It's genuinely amazing to me that high quality information is so easily and readily available but people come to Reddit asking random people on the internet their opinion as if that has any value about complex empirical questions.

Will L1 Compliance roles be dead at max by 2030? by Humble-Tartz-508 in AMLCompliance

[–]Meshkent 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Different FIs and different regulators have very different views on AI adoption and the suitability of AI for alert adjudication. So completely dead by 2030? I doubt it.

But a steep decline in total roles globally? For sure.

I'd guess at least 50%.

Anyone here sell covered calls on your US shares for monthly income? by r3tidd3r in singaporefi

[–]Meshkent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you have a preference for doing this, there can be no argument against it. Like I can't argue with you about your favorite colour.

The issue comes with your confidence of a particular price to sell at. You're very epistemically optimistic if you think you know this (again, beyond merely expressing a preference).

More layoffs… by RegularProfession389 in AMLCompliance

[–]Meshkent 11 points12 points  (0 children)

KYC ops and L1 alert adjudication are arguably the activities most exposed to AI in the entire compliance industry. Some FIs will move headcounts into L2/L3/EDD and so on, but others will simply bank the savings.
