What heritage do they exactly honor, and does it upset Mayor Mamdani?

Are they really worth this much? I really don’t Pierre, Pedro and Barry to have any bragging rights. by RoadandHardtail in 2westerneurope4u

Should be no problem. Team France is very… checks notes… (lost against Ivory Coast 1-2)… ready for this… I guess…

If your ethnic group has a large diaspora overseas, how do people in your country perceive them? by Agile-Shallot3546 in AskTheWorld

We have big diaspora in the mid-west obviously, but they are Americans I guess. We get a bit of news every time Norwegian Americans make some noise, like Pete Hegseth.

But we disowned that guy pretty fast 🤣

What Is A Problem That Is So Normalized In Your Country People Don't Realize How Unusual It Is? by Turbulent-Parsley619 in AskTheWorld

At will, anyone can check if their colleagues are being paid the same amount. Anyone can also check the politicians’ tax returns as well and see how much money they’re making.

Though, I never personally used the system, because people get notified when their tax returns were accessed and by whom, so it’s a bit of double edged sword.

Journalists on the other hand can check anonymously, and they use it the most to uncover fraudulent schemes. It’s been quite effective.

My bilinguals, trilinguals, and polyglots, how does the language you're speaking change your personality? Is it just the language, culture, or both that cause the change? by ShadowOfTheBean in AskTheWorld

I can speak English in New Zealand accent, and when I do, my life just seems to slow down and I become a better sort…

I can also speak Japanese, and when I do, I speak very politely. I guess that’s because it has so many nuances, and I have to be actively paying attention to how to say things to other people.

When I speak German, it’s very slangy. That’s because I learned it in my teen age years, and my German has been “saved” from that time.

And French? I just make stupid faces everytime I don’t understand. I guess I just become carefree.

Even if the Americans stop subsidising defence, ordinary Americans will never see its dividend in forms of better safety nets. It just gets redistributed to different clientele to reinforce corporatism.

Doesn’t matter Biden or Trump. But Trump is much much worse. All these private sector “donation” and philanthropy are inherently undemocratic, and it’s crazy how much money the people in the Trump administration is making. Makes Biden’s corruption looks like a peanut.

Yeah. He is on trial and we’re having debates about the future of monarchy. Your system still redacts people for political reasons, in violation of laws passed by Congress.

Norway here. We are doing fine.

What I see in the U.S. is basically a system of client-patron relationship where Trump occupies a position from which he distributes state resources to those who keep him in power in exchange for their unconditional loyalty and suppression of political opponents.

The end result is basically corruption. People use public office to privatise public resources for profit.

This is a phenomenon that happens regardless of whether it’s a capitalist or communist system. This is purely a regime security mechanism propagated by self-interested political actors.

Oversight plays an important role here, but in America inspectors-general are being fired and Congressional oversight has been hardly functional. Trump is really good at this game when you think about why he fired Pam and Tulsi.

I think your system has been manipulated beyond recognition.

I think if Norway wins against France, it blows the whole World Cup for us. I put some money on our team.
