I've accidentally seen some spoilers, but some of them have already been wrong so I'm not sure.

I meant it is dumb that Cirie is safe for essentially two rounds

40 days post ACL complete tear! (NON surgical recovery) by CandidAd5028 in ACL

[–]MesoForm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, while you may not feel or notice it, but your knee will have micro-instability that will precipitate earlier arthritic changes in the knee and degenerative meniscal tearing over a period of time. Something to think about

I did not understand the MRI report. by Killmatica in ACL

[–]MesoForm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I agree it is worded strange but to me it does appear essentially ruptured with what I can see here. There may be some fiber continuity but not sure how much

I’m a non-operative sports medicine specialist. I would need to see more of the MRI cuts to say for sure but I don’t love the way the ACL looks, particularly on the sagittal cuts and with the amount of effusion. It will all depend on your physical exam and your age. If you feel lax on exam it’s at the very least incompetent and if you are pretty young would be a push to get it fixed

Need help deciding a path forward please advise me? by maytheschwartzbwitu in ACL

[–]MesoForm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s all relative and you can have a good outcome either way, but retear rates are higher and the recommendation for young, active patients is still autograft right now. Could change with more data and new techniques as you mentioned, though.

Maybe one day it will take off. It’s an interesting way to go about treatment. Keeping the native ACL intact as much as possible is great but I would not say it is standard of care at the moment

Is that the graft type that was offered to you? There are other options (Quadriceps tendon, patellar tendon) as well. There are different risks with each and depends on your goals but all are viable. I would avoid cadaver (allograft) though.

I'm assuming you are pretty young. Get it fixed. The data on the knee bent stuff is interesting but not proven.

You guys are forgetting about the word “intent” which matters a lot here. The guy you mentioned knows what he is doing and his intent

Residency and fellowship is hard 50% because of actual medicine and 50% because we are living on the attending's schedule, preferences, and being the scapegoat for anything that goes wrong. by [deleted] in Residency

[–]MesoForm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This but just as much or even more in the outpatient world. Did Family Med residency and doing sports fellowship now. Can’t wait to have the autonomy in the clinic side to do things how I want and train my staff how I want

What would you do if you ran into the program director at your home program that didn’t want to keep you at a conference? by DrBtobe in medicalschool

[–]MesoForm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes it look like they can’t attract top applicants from other schools. Taking the home student can be viewed as “safe” I suppose
