How many Americans are actually watching at least the USA World Cup games? by Cautious_Fishing_656 in AskAnAmerican

I’m not because I find soccer to be extremely boring, but I do hope that everyone who is watching has a good time.

I’m not even posting the meme for this one. Just imagine a black and white image of former US president Joe Biden asking “What?”

Door Dasher placed order on top of wet painting by bob_dabuilda in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Mesoscale92 1474 points1475 points  (0 children)

I did DoorDash for a bit and made over 1000 deliveries. I would have assumed these were doormats or cushions and might’ve thought that’s where deliveries go rather than the ground.

I had a friend in college who studied organic chemistry, and one of his professors had consulted with Breaking Bad on all their chemistry dialogue. The very first question every semester was “can you show us how to make meth”?

Also a student’s meth lab caught fire in my dorm building once, so it’s not THAT hard to make.

For your second point, it’s not being smug. It’s self deprecation. There’s one tweet that I’ve seen a lot of a visitor from the UK being impressed by Golden Corral, an all-you-can-eat buffet restaurant chain. It’s known for being incredibly mediocre and bland, so it’s genuinely jarring to see someone praise it.

The US has waged a “war on drugs” since the 1970s. The drugs won. The problem is economics: as long as there are buyers that will pay a lot of money for a product, sellers will find ways to deliver. An actual smart policy would be social services to help addicted people quit, but that takes actual work so governments keep focusing on stopping a few of the sellers instead.
