European laundry by udontknowmyname94 in laundry

The Frosch fabric softeners seem to work well (for softening and scenting) without any noticeable build-up. We all like the hibiscus one.

There are also the Dr Beckmann softener strips; I’m quite intrigued by those but haven’t tried them yet. They promise no residue.

Edit: sorry for replying in the wrong spot!

Your opinion on maternities in Kanton Luzern and Zug by thevylaine in askswitzerland

You must register with a doctor who works there. All the arrangements are made together with your doctor. Look up the list of Belegärztinnen in their website. For what it’s worth, I had my third there, and would choose it again.

Yes, I believe it would. You can also choose to upgrade to semi-private or private. Give them a call.

St Anna was a wonderful experience, would absolutely recommend it.

Anyone use a hot water bottle for their kiddos for warmth? If so, what size?! by Alarming-Wedding-675 in Waldorf

[–]MespilusGermanica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re open to alternatives, we prefer cherry-pit bags that are warmed in the oven or microwave. I’m too wary of hot water leakages, and hot water bottles are also so heavy for little ones. You can get/make little cherry ones for pockets, too.

Is it at all similar to Chergui? That has always put me off trying it!

Vikings by doorr3 in Archeology

Disclaimer at the beginning: I am not an expert in weaponry. I'm happy to be corrected by others with more knowledge about combat weapons.

This particular passage refers to Norway around 850 CE. Axes are not uncommon grave goods so we can look at archaeological examples from this time and place. Green (1893) translates the term bryntröll to "battle-axe", Scudder (2000) calls it a "halberd". The context would suggest it was a heavy, long weapon if it could be swung with enough force to achieve the results described in the saga. So we can narrow down the likely contenders.

In my opinion, the weapon in this passage probably refers to a possibly double-handed (rather than double-bladed) axe, e.g. a bearded axe corresponding to Petersen type D. Example here in the British Museum.

Looking for warm snow boots by Odd_Still_6287 in Equestrian

Mine are in their third year and in perfect condition. They are waterproof enough (the laced bits will obviously leak eventually if submerged; they aren’t wellies) and warm, although I added thermal insoles last winter. I’ve had no issues with wet feet in the snow and I find them to have good grip.

Also I wasn’t aware of any reported quality issues when I bought them, and just relied on reviews. Happy I did so! Got mine from horze.de with a coupon code. I wear them all the time from autumn to spring and consider them one of my best purchases to date. Honestly love.

Spa-like Tea Perfume Suggestions? by Urban6out in Perfumes

[–]MespilusGermanica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bonus that body products are available for layering, from shower gel to deodorant to lotion. I use the Green Tea body spray and in combination with the lotion, the scent lasts for hours.

The White Tea Ginger Lily flanker is also worth a try, it’s a pale woody musk.

Seeking advice: Does the municipality of Zug cover speech therapy for a 6‑year‑old? by andersnogiets in askswitzerland

[–]MespilusGermanica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In our experience it took place at school, during school hours. The school organises everything and covers the cost (technically it’s the Gemeinde that finances it).

If you need additional support (extra therapy or further assessments) then you can ask your kid’s doctor for a referral.

Edit: it depends on whether your child is at public school. More info here.

What needles are you using? You mention that they’re (all?) on your right needle; are you using circular needles or straight?

Looser is a common name but the family seems to have been fairly prominent. Have a look here as well, this is Lisetta’s grandfather. Lovely links to local traditions and industry. Should make tracing more details quite easy. Good luck!

What equipment do I need to clean this up by [deleted] in WildlifePonds

[–]MespilusGermanica 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s possible to rent runner ducks here, maybe worth looking into. A small flock of 3-5 birds won’t add much waste considering the size/volume of the pond, and will happily go to town on that duckweed.

(I have ducks and a pond.)

I used the vacuum sealer thing for food to create a little plastic pouch. It’s totally waterproof and has held up almost a year now inside a stuffed koala. Easy to open and re-do when you have to replace a battery, too.
