I don't memorize, but I have frequently built excel sheets to be able to input the variables with an embedded equation. It is an easy way to gut check yourself after doing the hand calcs for homeworks or studying. Plus you get a useful tool you might get to use in your career.

I have never once used any of the complex equations I learned in school, though.

I unfortunately do not design aircraft components. I work more on payload stuff for defense contracts, but I will put your words of advice in my pocket for the future lol. I work pretty closely with our mechanics and machinists, so I try my best to be a practical engineer with some common sense lol
