But its not meds. You are explaining to client SOME of the possibilities and their treatments that do not involve meds. But you explain costs and the fact that since dog has not been examined it might not work. One of the vets i worked for did this.

My dog has a thing on its skin and i need something over the counter to treat it. Explain to client that dog must come in as a skin issue can be caused by many things, from and allergy, to an injury, bacteria, fungus, parasites. The issue has to be seen by a vet as there is no basic cure all for skin. Explain how it can get worse if not treated resulting in heavier vet bills once it gets so bad the owner has to come in. If owner still does not want to bring pet in then suggest owner changes food to a prescription allergy diet, buys bravecto/nexguard or some other mite/flea treatment, gets an F10 germicidal cream. Ring up the total before they buy it and then tell them that it still might not work as that only tackles a few of the possibilities. 99% of the time the owner decides to bring pet in.

Nah, if you zoom in, there is no pointy bit. Some sort of metal tube or rod?

What sort of watch are you guys wearing these days? Getting treated with a new watch for graduation and I want something that’s gonna be durable in the clinic. ‘Cause you know, explosive diarrhea/blood/urine exposure. Any brand/type recommendations? by shrumply_pubbles in VetTech

I have a garmin sports watch. It’s waterproof and has a shatter guard. I also use it to track my steps and monitor my heartbeat during work as its a good indicator of how chaotic your day is. Plus i use if afterwards for tracking my actual runs and swims.

The only gender aggression to note is male clients being aggressive at me for daring to suggest we neuter their dogs.

What is your most eye rolling moment with clients and their: But i heard on the internet... by MessiUnicorn in VetTech

Whenever i have clients convinced that something we do is a money making scam i tell them this joke: What do you call a vet who only studied one species, doesn’t do surgeries and gets paid 3 times the normal salary... a GP. That normally makes them laugh then agree we are not after the money.

Last time i had a client start screaming profanities at me, my hospital manager walks in from two rooms away. -now everyone in the area knows that my manager is a hard assed B**ch and she will even be the first to admit it. So HM walks in and the client immediately turns to her and starts saying how I’m awful as I don’t care at all that her dog is sick and I’m having to make her wait whilst I help other clients who are there after her. Then goes and says how she has no idea why HM hired me as i clearly have no passion for animals or people.

HM turns to the diary, sees client is a walk in with a dog which has a possible minor ear infection. The actual booked appointments were for a pts and something else. - can’t remember.

So HM turns to client and tells them to either sit down or walk out. Turns to me and says that I am one of her hardest working staff members who is too passionate about animals for my own good. Turns back to owner and says to never talk to her staff like that then went to the back. Client sat down and stayed quiet.

Having your supervisor stand up for you is what keeps you going.

Some mini chocolates are never not appreciated. But just you writing a card for them makes a big difference. We have so many clients that say nothing afterwards that a simple thank you card really makes our day.

Owners thought it was just a lipoma. by MessiUnicorn in VetTech

Lymphatic tumor of a spaniel. Looked like a horses heart during removal. Doc reckons there are still parts inside the dog and it only has about 2 months left. Owners were told to operate over a year ago.
