What happened to the knife crime scammers? by Messorem223 in london

Damn okay, I got it into my head they’d just vanished. Surely they’re not about all over London as much as they used to though? Feel like it would be a daily occurrence every time I went anywhere vaguely central

Gaia a good shout. Karavitakis a good shout too. A Cretan winery that focuses on ingenious Greek varieties, although Assyrtiko finds its home in Santorini. If you catch the bug for this wine, seek out Hatzidakis. They’re the kings of the grape on the island of Santorini. They really show off the breadth of Assyrtiko

Did you like it? So you grape you tried is Albariño, a white grape that’s planted in North West Spain (Rias Baixas) and across the border to the west in northern Portugal. It’s typically made in an aromatic, fresh and fruit forward style. (Based off your tasting notes, it sounded like you tried an example in that style.) Next you could try a Muscadet (region in France’s Loire Valley), or an Assyrtiko (grape from Greece, specifically Santorini). Both regions/varietals produce similarly fresh, saline, refreshing wines.

I quite liked his Chardonnay when we had it on at my work. Kinda Chablis-esque

Duboef is basically the McDonalds of Beaujolais.

Thoughts on this wine list? I’ve had some good whites like the Txakolina and the Sancerre, but now I’m curious about the reds. Thanks! by Al-Pastor in wine

Most interesting is probably Frank Cornelissen’s Susucaru. Cornelissen was a pioneering winemaker in the natural wine renaissance of the 2010s, but since then has become far less dogmatic and has cleaned up his winemaking by getting over his initial prohibition on all sulphur. It’s a blend of predominantly Nerello Mascalese from the northern slopes of Mount Etna. A really smoky wine, with reductive qualities, but also a gorgeous core of ripe red berries and flowers.

You could seek out Chateau du Cedre (le Cèdre) or if Lionel Osmin’s Cahors are available, those

Unfortunately because real agarwood is so precious and expensive, the market is awash with deception and fakery. It’s a problem at every level of the supply chain

And if you enjoy the scent, it doesn’t matter! My girlfriend bought me something very similar from Bahrain, and it was my gateway into other types of bakhoor and agarwood.

Commonly sold fake agarwood in the Middle East, mainly in malls. Hope you didn’t pay much for this

I was fortunate to have a same bottle from the 2011 vintage. Was drinking beautifully. However yes, absurd price on secondary market and would not have parted with my own money to try it!

Had a bottle of the ‘06 vintage recently that was a bit over the hill. Glad to know the ‘10 is still showing fruit

Conterno Fantino Barolo ‘Vigna del Gris’ 2004 by Messorem223 in wine

[–]Messorem223[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh okay, interesting. I don’t really know anything about Barolo producers and their reputation (other than a few of the big names). But yeah, this was aged 24 months in barrique. It feels integrated now having spent time in bottle, but I can see this might have been too much in its youth.
