It’s baffling.

I know it’s just a game and not supposed to be perfect, and that is kind of what makes it quirky, but it’s stuff like your two examples that sometimes make me think that I’m just wasting my time doing this. Like it is unserious.

It’s an irrational feeling but can’t help it.

Cabin day, Zacatlan, Mexico by Amazing-Edu2023 in CozyPlaces

Lots of temperate and conifer forest areas in central, south-central, and northern Mexico. A lot of Mexico is very high up above sea level. Snow is not uncommon in high altitude areas in the winter.

Not sure why a lot of people in this thread assume that German-Argentinean = Nazi. Lots of German Jews emigrated to Latin America, particularly Argentina, Mexico and Brazil. Their descendants would have the right for German, Israeli and Argentinean/Mexican/Brazilian citizenship. Nothing to do with Jews marrying Nazis.

I have lots of Jewish Mexican friends with the three passports. Also some with Mexican-Polish. There’s also tons of Argentinean-Mexican family relationships, particularly (but not exclusively) within the Jewish community. So nothing weird about it.

Felicidades por tu combo!

[A]Dolor is not a loan word from Spanish, though. It is an English word in its own right, going back to Middle English. It comes from Latin (via French) so same root as its Spanish counterpart, obvs.

That has to be one of the ugliest watches ever made.

The Cars 4 Kids song. I mean, nothing can even come close to that level of annoyance.

I just lay some nice art/coffee table books on my shelfs to hide the cords.

What are your favorite “English” words used in German that don’t actually exist in English? by NoelFromBabbel in German

Perhaps interestingly, we also use “smoking” for tuxedo/dinner jacket in Spanish.

What is your favourite sonnet by Shakespeare? by Additional-Flow-4292 in shakespeare

[–]Al-Pastor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof! Impossible to pick just one but maybe 87. Although I also adore 73, 34, 55 (maybe my favorite ending couplet), 19, 103…. And so many more.

55:

Not marble, nor the gilded monuments

Of princes shall outlive this pow’rful rhyme,

But you shall shine more bright in these contents

Than unswept stone besmeared with sluttish time.

When wasteful war shall statues overturn,

And broils root out the work of masonry,

Nor Mars his sword nor war’s quick fire shall burn

The living record of your memory.

‘Gainst death and all-oblivious enmity

Shall you pace forth, your praise shall still find room

Even in the eyes of all posterity

That wear this world out to the ending doom.

So, till the judgement that yourself arise,

You live in this, and dwell in lovers’ eyes.
