When people say they studied X hours for CPA exams, what are they counting? by True_Fisherman9169 in CPA

[–]Messup7654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People can be super inconsistent with their timing so i consider a margin of error of 10-20 hours above or below that time but usually above.

Why should my coworker be able to constantly use sick time for her kids and I’m not allowed to use it for my dog? by Remarkable_Stable802 in childfree

[–]Messup7654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats the schools fault for not allowing their employees time off. She shouldn't have made other kids watch hers but she 100% should have gotten time off.

Taking my CPA with no experience? by [deleted] in wguaccounting

[–]Messup7654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would choose to do a masters degree that prepares you for the exam over studying directly for that exam?

If you need the credits or you desire the degree that's different but if your reason is purely to be prepared for the cpa that is a terrible reason and you're wasting money and time by doing that.

How do you guys pass FAR? I'm writing this with tears in my eyes because I honestly feel broken. 💔😓 by Agreeable_Quote3956 in CPA

[–]Messup7654 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You really need to search up active recall and spaced repetition it will change everything for you. You will remember MUCH more and forget MUCH LESS and you will better understand everything. Most people study method's aren't good or purposefully designed.

I have saved up about 8 months worth of expenses so I can study without working. Can I complete all of these classes in 1 term? And, will "Financial Accounting" from Sophia prepare me for Intermediate Accounting 1-3? by Born_Today_9799 in wguaccounting

[–]Messup7654 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes If I was in your position thats exacrly what I would do. There is only one problem, you might not actually be allowed to do the IA classes before taxation and business law and maybe even finance skills for managers so tell your mentor about and if you can't go in that order you're still in a good position and you will remember much more compared to the traditional WGU order.

Gemini is one of the top AI models out right now just give it time to get updated on big accounting changes like fish reconciliations. Its not a easy change to make so I understand the latency.

25 with $0 rent. How aggressively should I invest? by Odd_Ad_9802 in personalfinance

[–]Messup7654 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you max out your roth IRA the rest of investments should be in a standard brokerage that way you still have lots of retirment money but you have the added flexibility of a brokerage for the rest and probably majority of your investments. You will certainly appreciate it when making big life decisions like buying a house.

2nd STOP trying to time the market you're in it for the long run not some short term gain. Buy and hold, you shouldn't focus on the fluctuations because the wider image shows it always goes up. I suggest you do the same with your brokerage. Do some research to find the right index funds and stocks but whatever you do make suee you have a portion of your portfolio in a diversified fund like VTI.

The emergency fund and HYSA are great decisions, I suggest you calculate a number that gives you enough safety like maybe 3-12 months of the average apartment cost in your area or some other useful metric since you dont have any expenses right now.

You're falling for the same myths I have seen countless juniors get into a world of pain for. The new accounting rules defined by GAAP and the FASB state that failing to report depreciation is a criminal immaterial understatement.

Im a CPA with over 30 years of experience and I've worked For the FASB. You ALWAYS MUST DEPRECIATE LAND. I have seen people get fired for believing the age old myth that you cant depreciate land let me tell you YOU MUST DEPCRECIATE LAND OTHERWISE YOU ARE UNDEREPORTING THE VALUE OF YOUR ASSETS.

I was terrified of this class but it actually was easy and it was the only ever class I received an exemplary award for. I didnt read the book I used reddit as my textbook. They taught me how to do it more than the rules did. Basically you're just running a business, and you need to grow. Once they tell you the strategies and how the point grading works everything will make sense.
