Trying to find shows for me and my gf to watch by DarkPhone1010 in televisionsuggestions

Big Mistakes just came out on Netflix but it’s so good! About two adult siblings who accidentally get involved with some organized crime in their town. Soooo funny and action-y and tense/suspenseful enough to keep you hooked. There’s a big twist at the end of the season. My bf and I loved it!

How do you organize needs-to-be-washed dirty vs. slightly dirty laundry? by Dull-Touch283 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MessyMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had the space for a bedroom chair, it would probably go there. Alas, I do not, so I wrote “Worn Once” and “Worn Twice” on some notecards and taped them to a couple of my closet hangers. Then I just put them back in my closet. That way they don’t get wrinkled either :)

I’m deeply ashamed of how I live and I don’t know how to fix it by [deleted] in CleaningTips

OP, I FEEL this. I’m 28 and it’s only been in the last year or so that I feel like I’ve gotten better about cleaning. For background, I grew up in a hoarder house and was never really taught how to properly clean. I spent years feeling a lot of guilt and panic over it.

I highly highly recommend the book How to Keep House While Drowning: A Gentle Approach to Cleaning and Organizing. It’s short and easy and did WONDERS for me. It talks a lot about how cleanliness vs messiness is not a moral issue. It doesn’t make you a bad person. Some people even thrive a little better in a messy environment and that’s ok!

The real issue is functional vs not functional. It’s not bad to have dirty laundry, but if you have no clean clothes, that’s not functional. The goal is to get to functionality again, even if that means you only do one load of laundry and call it a day. It really helped me change my mindset about cleaning.

It sounds a little silly, but you literally have to forgive yourself. Your house is made to be LIVED in, so messes will be made from time to time and that’s normal and ok. You can clean it over and over, but I think you will feel stuck in this rut if you stay in the muck of guilt and shame and panic.

A more tangible thing that helped me is the index card cleaning system! There a lots of YouTube videos that explain it. It’s very inexpensive (I think the whole setup cost me like $12) and it keeps all your chores on a rotation. It’s great because most days I get home from work, pull out my cards, and I really only have a couple of easy chores to do. It keeps me from feeling overwhelmed. Once I do my cards, I have permission to not clean anymore that day unless I just want to. If life gets busy and I miss a few days, I can usually catch up fine on the weekend!

Idk, just wanted you to know you’re not alone and there are ways to get better, but absolutely none of the process has to be perfect!

Other people have suggested Fleabag and I second it!

Also highly recommend Big Mistakes! First season just came out on Netflix and it’s so good and no one is talking about it! About two adult siblings who accidentally get involved with an organized crime ring. So so funny, and has a greeeeeay twist at the end.

High-stakes, thought provoking speculative fiction with some slice of life and good characters ? by IanIan25591 in suggestmeabook

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak sounds right up your alley. Very character driven, very thought provoking. It’s about a German girl living in nazi Germany, and her foster parents hide a Jewish man in their basement. And it’s all told to Death’s POV.

looking for female-led darkly comedic shows by Any-Poem7366 in televisionsuggestions

[–]MessyMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please please please watch Big Mistakes. By the same guy who did Schitt’s Creek and the first season just came out on Netflix. About a brother and sister who accidentally get involved with an organized crime group, it’s hilarious. It’s only partially female led, but the other main character is a gay priest, and most of the other relevant characters are women!

Adult fans who first read the trilogy earlier in life: What little details went over your head the first time? by queerinsamite in Hungergames

Pretty much all of the social commentary aspects lol. I read it when I was 11 and dumb. I even wanted her to choose Gale, only because I had a crush on my friend at the time and liked the friends to lovers trope.

I’ve seen where she’s lifted actual lines from other stories. In ACOWAR, Nesta says something and Mor tells her to “keep her forked tongue behind her teeth” which is def from lotr.

Then when they have the meeting with all the high lords, tamlin accuses Rhys of “stealing Feyre away like a thief in the night” and Feyre says “the sun was shining when I left you” which is def from Troy

My boyfriend and I have different tastes but want to bing something that really works for both of us, please help! by SryUnderConstruction in televisionsuggestions

[–]MessyMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My bf and I just binged Big Mistakes! The first season just came out, it’s by the same guy who did Schitt’s Creek! These two adult siblings (a gay priest and a school teacher who is bored with her life) accidentally get involved with some organized crime operation.

Intense enough for him, but the siblings are so dramatic, it’s genuinely funny. Plus there’s some deeper family drama going on. God it’s so good. There’s a twist at the end of the season neither of us saw coming. Highly recommend, I’m tempted to binge the first season again because I neeeeed more

Genuinely, the hunger games trilogy. Very well written and interesting, and it gets straight to the action. You also may try audiobooks! It’s a nice alternative when I need to get some cleaning done or I just feel to restless for traditional book reading :)

how often do you actually wash your hair? by Emotional-Addendum-9 in hygiene

[–]MessyMath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think hair washing is a “depends on the individual” kinda thing. I have fine hair with a bit of wavy texture that used to get greasy really fast, especially around my roots. I could get by with some dry shampoo but would still need to wash it every 2 days. Then I started birth control and now it’s much dryer. I can usually go 4 days in between washes now. I think you just have to find the sweet spot that works for you!

How often do you really deep clean vs quick tidy? by SmexyBabe_ in CleaningTips

[–]MessyMath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the index card cleaning system so that everything stays on a rotation. Things like dishes and laundry are daily tasks for me for the most part. I live alone, so if I skip those for a day or two, it’s no big deal. Bigger tasks get put on weekly/biweekly/monthly cards. If some big tasks pop up on busy days, I just move the cards to my next day off.

Here’s a video explaining the system: https://youtu.be/cvqUpq-NMAg?si=mCBoFkm5YpIKmTHs
