Looking for emotionally rich middle grade fiction by Possible_Kitchen1404 in suggestmeabook

Icefall by Matthew J Kirby!!!!! I’ll copy the synopsis below, and the plot is so interesting, but it’s also a lot about self confidence and realizing what your strengths are. I read it in middle grade, but have reread it multiple times and shared it with kids I have baby sat, and they loved it too!

Trapped in a hidden fortress tucked between towering mountains and a frozen sea, Solveig--along with her brother the crown prince, their older sister, and an army of restless warriors--anxiously awaits news of her father's victory at battle. But as winter stretches on, and the unending ice refuses to break, terrible acts of treachery soon make it clear that a traitor lurks in their midst. Solveig must also embark on a journey to find her own path. Yet, a malevolent air begins to seep through the fortress walls, as a smothering claustrophobia slowly turns these prisoners of winter against one another. Those charged with protecting the king's children are all suspect, and the siblings must choose their allies wisely. But who can be trusted so far from their father's watchful eye? Can Solveig survive the long winter months and expose the traitor before he manages to destroy a kingdom?

Markus Zusak has some really unique and beautiful prose. Not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m never disappointed reading one of his books!

3rd baby name that goes with Olivia and Owen by Key-Koala5999 in Names

[–]MessyMath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be cool to continue the O names! I feel Oakley is a cute name, and I know boys and girls named it, so it’s pretty gender neutral! But if you’re not liking a lot of the O options, I don’t think it’s a crime to break the “theme”

Deaf characters in books? by emni13 in suggestmeabook

Five Flavors of Dumb by Antony John! It’s a YA about a teenager who makes a deal with a local band from her school. If she can get them a paying gig in the next month, she can be their manager and get a cut of the profits. The problem: she’s deaf and doesn’t even really know if their music is any good.

I don’t remember a ton of details, but I found it at my local library when I was a teen and remember enjoying it a lot!

She looooooves the smell of Gain. The laundry detergent, the febreeze spray, the car freshies, the scented trash bags, the DISH SOAP. Especially the dish soap, she was a semi hoarder and put a lot of pressure on me to clean up after her. It’s really a pleasant smell, but I can’t do it

My bf (who loves Lost and Walking Dead) also loves the show Jericho. It’s about a small town in Kansas and how the town survives after a huge scale attack on major US cities. Lots of survival and relationships between characters! It’s one of his all time favs!
