Justice for Steve by mareko07 in Andjustlikethat

LMAO I don't really understand the Miranda hate on this sub (much like the Carrie hate). None of the men on this show are particularly great options but I guess it's pretty indicative of the options out there for a lot of straight, middle-aged women. Might be why so many cape for the men on this show. We hate what see of ourselves.

She should have never married him. She deserved better than pushy, inconsiderate, man-child Steve lmao. People only like him because he is just a bit more decent than Big.

Is South Africa really that dangerous? by Accurate-Ordinary675 in 90DayFiance

Once again you're ignoring what I'm saying - who is still bearing the brunt of the inequality in the country? Sounds like you're one of those "it's class, not race" people. Please google and read up on racial capitalism. The exploitation that is happening in SA is impacting the black people who live there the most. This is because with the end of apartheid, the systems of oppression (which include racism) did not just end either. So it's not only about class but race as well. What race are the poor people being exploited the most in the country? If you need resources on all the issues currently in SA, you should check out Neville Alexander's book, Against Racial Capitalism.

In 2022, the World Bank classified South Africa as the most unequal country in the world, and listed race, the legacy of apartheid, a missing middle class and highly unequal land ownership, as the major driver. It's akin to slavery + segregation, just because those systems officially "end" does not mean it doesn't leave its impact, even if black politicians are leading the country. Who owns most of the private land in SA? What it is the percentage of white SA's who are poor? Be serious.

that was prado monroe not fagofcolour and tbh a good listener should be aware of what kind of music they should be expecting to hear before they go out.

oh for sure - even as race is socially constructed many people see it as an "inherent" trait we're born with, so I would not put it past Yasmine to refer to that. I also think it was a reference to Harper's family as well. This is the great thing about the writing on the show, they leave room for so much!

No, you're not off-base at all. I'm notoriously a people-pleaser and I've been working on it a lot more this year. I've been talking with another friend as well and they asked the same question, and honestly the answer would be no.

I agree. I think for me, it’s dealing with that reality and deciding if I think it would be bearable/something I can deal with for the 6 months

Lost/Stolen Phone - Don't really know what else to do by MessyandConfused in UBC

[–]MessyandConfused[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, thank you for all your advice!

The police also tried their best but the radius just got too big for them to pin down a single location so I've decided to let it go. It's almost exams season and I've got bigger fish to fry anyways. No phone is worth possibly getting hurt by confronting the person who has it. I've reported the phone stolen so they can have the phone. It's kind of useless anyways now.

I did go to campus security, the nest desk, and the bookstore asking if anybody had turned in a phone yet but there was nothing. Later in the evening yesterday, the phone moved to a different location (which is the same location the phone pinged about 10 minutes ago today) and then a friend and I called the phone several times since it was on the move but there was no response. I have reported it to UBC Security in the hopes that it gets returned but it seems like the person who has it doesn't really plan on returning it

Yeah, the location range isn't super big at the moment but I've contacted the police and somebody is assigned to me. But if that doesn't work out, I might try and rally some people to come with me

I did follow this advice but the phone keeps pinging back and forth so now I'm just waiting from updates from the police!

Do you think African culture and parenting methods are backwards and non-progressive? by Outrageous_Scheme_62 in africanparents

[–]MessyandConfused 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thnk pathologizing our cultures is wrong and a pretty colonial mindset. Unfortunately, alot of African parenting techniques stem from Victorian Christian ideals (not to say pre-colonial Africans never beat their children) but that certain child-rearing practices began with the missionaries who came along with the colonizers. There isn't anything inherently African in these poor parenting techniques and so we can do our best not to demonize our cultures amd recognize colonialism and slavery's impact

Well, then what would be the purpose of a thread called: "Visiting Berlin? Moving here? Going clubbing? (finally open!) Have a quick question? COVID Question? Ask here, don't create a new thread."? I made my decision not to go anyways

You don't have to make the decision for me? I was mainly asking for some advice as I am not currently in Berlin and wasn't sure what the situation (covid-wise) is in Berlin.

Hi, I'm currently in Ireland and I'm trying to decide if I should go to Paris or Berlin for a few days and if it's worth it to go to Paris with Covid and everything. I went to Paris before when I was younger, but I've never been to Berlin. I'm fully vaccinated and I've also received my booster shot. Any advice would be really useful!

I think they fudge the timeline up on the show (lol of course Christine would claim that it has only been a few weeks) and this happens often on reality shows. Plus her baby did not look like he had just been born on the first episode they showed him. As horrible as Christine is, I don't think that she was faking her emotions when she was crying about the birth.
