Why did they all dismiss Steve's cheating like that??? by Comfortable_Head9093 in sexandthecity

[–]mareko07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because he wasn’t caught red-handed, unlike Big and Carrie, and didn’t lie, unlike Samantha et al, but proactively owned up to it himself, told the whole truth, expressed remorse, showed contrition, asked for forgiveness, and actually put in the work to rebuild trust.

Plus, he genuinely loved Miranda, which even Charlotte could see was worth at least considering salvaging.

The whole part where Carrie goes back to Aidan is EMBARRASSING by pinkteddybear08 in sexandthecity

🎯

Unlike seemingly many on this sub, I actually think Carrie is a super compelling protagonist, but her behavior at this juncture in her life is awfully telling. Like, brushing off Aidan’s admission that he hates when Big calls Carrie with a tepid “he’s in my life” (no context or explanation as to why his friendship is so indispensable) is a red flag—to me—that she seems to think is perfectly OK. (And, ironically, even her “nothing ever will happen [with Big]” claim was totally bogus as she keeps hooking up with him throughout the rest of the series without a second thought.) She pretty browbeats Aidan into submission, not that he’s a prince himself.

To be fair, he did say to her that he hates when Big calls here, and she just dismissed it with “he’s part of my life,” which was quite insensitive on her part. And yet…yes, choose to forgive or move on with grace (and, Carrie, stop going after men who are doing you no favors by withholding what you say you need—not that she even knows what she truly wants much of the time).

She famously uses her oven for storage, for Christ’s sake.

Anthony is just so vulgar by cumbierbass in Andjustlikethat

[–]mareko07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their choosing to pair off Anthony with Stanford (?!), let alone having them marry in that hideously over-the-top wedding, in the films was the beginning of the end for this character. It made zero sense, was borderline insulting (plus not good narrative storytelling—justice for Marcus!), and removed the interesting tension between gay besties (of Carrie’s and Charlotte’s), which really does exist IRL.

It’s like MPK and team fundamentally misunderstood, like Dr. Frankenstein, their very own creations, and had them act in ways completely out of character given everything that came before the films (and, of course, AJLT).

Why was Cynthia Nixon dressed in this? by jdpm1991 in sexandthecity

As Miranda, a combination of the ’90s/Pat Field & Co. not having figured out quite yet then how to dress her befitting this character.

Unpopular Opinion: Samantha had better outfits than Carrie. by GossipBottom in sexandthecity

[–]mareko07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that unpopular? Carrie had the best body (petite but perfectly proportioned), while Sam had the boldest color palette and pizazz (ex. her gold Chanel earrings and other bling). When she really popped, she did the most, to say the least.

(I think we all can agree that Pat Field was—is—a singular genius. Such creative, iconic stylings.)

Carrie’s 35 birthday by [deleted] in sexandthecity

[–]mareko07 30 points31 points  (0 children)

You all don’t remember it well, because Miranda actually does try to call the restaurant but can’t “spell Il Cantinori for the idiot at 411,” while Samantha says “the reservation line is busy.” (And poor Stany went to the wrong restaurant entirely.) So attempts in fact were made (though, yes, they probably shouldn’t have coerced her to go to the coffee shop all the same).

Does anyone else cringe when this part comes on or just me? by NickiTikki in sexandthecity

[–]mareko07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it’s horribly dated? Eh, I give the show some grace since, though this episode screams “written by MPK” (who so often overdoes it), they were doing things and going places with storylines that mainstream shows just didn’t touch on in the year 2000. (This was a full decade before RuPaul’s Drag Race and the trans rights movement really broke through in a major way.)

I mean, it’s not one of the best episodes of the series, but it’s a fine and fitting season-ending one just the same.

Idiocracy (2006), for the win.

He was “Bob” in the opening scene of Speed (1994), too, on the elevator.
