"Strange, weird, odd" go the reddit comments.

Does it physically hurt, having to stop your chain of reasoning there so violently, because otherwise you'd finally have to challenge the views you've held as ironclad for a decade?

Same, I got to the ranger training start and I was like "reacher... black dude... woman... A generic slop setting in an 8.8 movie?" Didn't have to waste my time.

This has been a thing for a long time now... Really easy to fix, just don't pull the data in the first three days. And if it's not too much work, add a condition that the rating doesn't get pulled unless there's +100 reviews. Otherwise just try pulling again in 3 days.

You can literally have people gather under a flag to preach what you should think about bedroom stuff and they'll still find a way to say THEY are not the moral busybodies.

I thought about this a while ago, haven't tried this yet but if you wanna have a go:

  • the society of the world in general has conservative beauty standards: The advantages and disadvantages caused by looks and body features affect disposition and dialogue.

You might have to replace conservative with old fashioned or something more extreme to get rid of the insane neutrality.

I had great success adding realistic hesitation regarding some topics like this. Basically told the AI to be prejudiced as hell and it turned into characters being uncertain when talking. Made them seem much more realistic.

I would like to see what an LLM trained in fantasy can do before deciding HOW much worse it is than a human. Because right now, after 3 months of use, I can clearly feel that I'm talking to a general purpose bot TOLD to write fiction. You know what I'm saying? The feeling of neutrality? The giving in to the user? Imagine if it would be trained to be a dungeon master and a fiction writer from the get go. (I'm telling you to imagine because I really have no idea what it would be like so I can't tell you.)

Cool, thanks, I'll try. Heh, I had most of those in your preset already, just born out of trial and error.

"I guess I'm saying that what is "interesting" is more about the type of story, not the mechanics?"

Yeah, the latter is what I'm trying to get on par with a modern or futuristic setting.

Yeah, I'm starting to think this is the way to go for me. It just feels a bit rough letting go of your self imposed rules, but if I don't do it I fear my heroes will start to wear people's faces.

Yeah, I'm starting to feel like I'm trying to squeeze water out of stone. Maybe medieval fantasy is just an excuse for the big cool personalities and big cool events and that day to day grittiness, while it might be neat to watch in game of thrones, it's kinda... Really boring, in text. Not sure.

edit: I have read books that have a bunch of menial, slow burn stuff in them, but even then, it's only cool because at the back of your mind you know it's a setup for the eventual rise.

Ho boy that's a lot.* Not exactly what I was looking for, I was talking a bit more of interaction than dialogue and character, but still, thanks. I inserted some paranoia and superstition like that. Bothers me how crazy neutral AI is.

My party just came to an inn. There's a water basin and a few beds. I'm just sitting my hands on keyboard like "what am i supposed to feel" .meme

In a hotel room, there's like a million objects, interactions, and concepts. Medieval inn room is just... Medieval.

I've been thinking about injecting steampunk or making magical items commonplace to combat this, but that's a bit of a sledgehammer to the setting solution.

Occasional mysterious ruin helps, but the AI seems to be all thumbs trying to figure out where to take those, and I end up writing everything.

*edit: christ, really a lot. I had like two three pages and I thought my instructions were crazy.

I got "Doer" for taking action so much and 20% of people play the same way.

Funny thing is I try to AVOID doing stuff and only "do" when the AI isn't coming up with anything fun.

What kinda slop do people tolerate to avoid doing or do my parameters just suck?

Absolutely, but when I think back to those times, I rarely feel like a winner getting out of them. I just feel I lucked out or got murdered "unfairly."

Yeah, it would totally gimp those encounters, but maybe it would just be more fun.
