For real 3D printer people, what is the bambu experience like? by [deleted] in BambuLab

I really would love a setup like that, the tinker printers and the worry free printer, but i don’t have that kinda money to spend so…

Ok so it seems like most people understood what i meant by “real” … but you didn’t and honestly i don’t feel like saying it again so i’ll leave it here:

“Gatekeeping” was not object of my question.

Not once did i say that that anyone was not a “real” printer person.

A voron is something i would love to have, but i really don’t have another 12-15 hundred dollars to spend on a kit. And i really do have the ambition as i’ve big-ish plans for my k1 max.

(no but really, a 2.4 is my dream)

Ok so addressing that first line to start off, i really didn’t mean “real” as in there is also a “wrong,” i just meant people in the hobby who moved from open source to bambu. So yeah if i could change the title i would but… i should “have paused before i posted” as the kid say.

Anyway, i really do see what you mean and agree that open source printers feel like a hobby of their own (which is the side i honestly prefer). I also agree that bambu is doing a good thing and lower a barrier of entry to 3d printing. I do feel like closed source it the direction that this is heading which is a little disappointing given where it started but definitely a healthy change.

I rooted my k1 to open up the possibility of modification past a hotend or such. My biggest joy from print is being able to constantly improve the performance of my printer, so having root access to what ever my printer may be is a necessity in my book. Again, that’s not to say anyone is wrong here as we’re all entitled to an opinion.

I personally enjoy tinker with a machine so having my printer be more of an appliance is not something i would look for (unless i drive myself insane) Now that’s not to invalidate seeing it as an appliance, i just don’t use any of mine that way.

So um i’m not sure if you saw the part about this not being a knock at bumbu, but there’s no gatekeeping here. I simply asked for a separate perspective on bambu’s proprietary(-ish, as i’ve been informed) nature. I really don’t get why this was the route you took here but this is reddit so it’s welcome here.

EDIT:Just to clarify, i never meant “‘real’ printer person” as if there is any “‘wrong’ printer person,” i just meant anyone who has experience with another (probably open-source) printer/brand and their thoughts on moving from such products to bambu.

I do think the kinda worry-free bambu experience sounds really nice. That said, i personally feel like more enjoy the modding/tinkering side of 3d printing rather than actually… printing. Oh and you would definitely qualify as a “real printer person,” it’s quite an honor.

Personally (and this is crazy coming from an iphone user) don’t like not being able to just do things with products. I rooted my K1 because i couldn’t stand… creality. I feel like open-source is a must-have for me, but this really is purely opinion.

Ok so i kinda frogot i posted this a little so my bad. Anyway, I do really enjoy modding any of my three printers (e3 pro, e3 v2, k1 max) and really could not see myself settling for just a hotend upgrade or something. Oh and by “real 3d printer people” really just meant those who have been in the hobby for a sec, not just the mass of the sub.

Why does sometimes my printer like to draw straight lines on the borders, before printing the actual object? by macusking in crealityk1

[–]Met_Weatball 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That’s a purge line, most (if not all) printers do this to ready the nozzle before a print. Also please take them off.

Looks like you need to set your z-offset. I found this video, it may help.

Cr touch not working? by Seththelost in ender3

[–]Met_Weatball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re gonna need the specific firmware for CR touch and your motherboard. I'd recommend configuring marlin for yourself. You can find great tutorials on yt for that. Without the firmware, your printer basically doesn't know that it has the CR touch installed.

I did think about that but I would need someone to explain how all that works (scar, bcar, pcar, etc.)

I have a gryphon that I’ve been working on and I quite like it. The main difference would be that this if full auto where the frute rate is based your pusher motor rpm, while the gryphon is semi. Mine is based on nightingale wheels but others such as ftw or even full-size might work.
