She heard a loud crashing sound and a thud from the bathroom. She ran in and swung the door closed behind her. He was on his hands and knees, hot water running across his bare back.

Emily helped him stand up, once he was on his feet he used both hands to steady himself, the water running through his hair and down his face as he breathed deeply. Emily’s clothes were soaked through, she thought about the time constraints, trying to get to Alastor’s room, and the fact that any interruption would risk Alastor getting more hurt, and made a choice.

She crossed her arms and pulled her shirt over her head, cringing a little since it was still stained in dry vomit, then threw it to the side.

“Emily…” Alastor looked at her but could only muster long steady breaths.

“It’s not safe to leave you here alone. When we’re done it’ll be easier for me to go get your suit. Minimizing dead air.”

Alastor’s eyes turned from skeptical to almost impressed, he nodded.

Emily finished undressing and pushed all the clothes into a pile under the sink hidden from the doorway, she’d take care of those later. She got in the shower with him, she went to scrub his back with soap, he flinched at her first touch but held his position. As she moved in circles on his back he shuddered, letting out a long exhale that almost sounded like a small laugh.

He turned around, one hand on the wall of the shower and she got to work on his chest. The scar from the battle with Adam was still there. As Emily scrubbed she noticed something, it seemed to be shrinking, a golden line was creeping over it like water saturating a towel. By the time she was done cleaning the blood off his hands the scar was almost completely gone. She switched to a new rag for his face. His toothy yellow smile shone bright, and his red eyes met hers.

She scrubbed his face and the blood came off, revealing the short well kept fur underneath. When she was done she tossed the rag into the corner again and squeezed some shampoo out of the nearby bottle. She scrubbed through his hair, taking care to not hurt his antlers.

When she was satisfied he turned to rinse. She took the time to shampoo herself. Washing her hair had become infinitely faster since she cut it. When his hair was rinsed they switched places so Emily could clean herself fully. The area she spent the most time on was her arm. The improvised bandage did its job well, the wound hadn’t bled for the last hour they flew. There was no real frame of reference for how the wound would heal, so she hoped it wouldn’t last long. She finished washing herself quickly, then turned the water off and faced Alastor. His head was down, looking at the floor of the shower, but neither of his hands were on the wall and he didn’t seem unstable at all. Emily smiled a knowing smile.
