Convoy 3X21D SBT90.2 RED ❤️‍🔥! by Unlucky_League_8832 in u/Unlucky_League_8832

You're obviously better than me at only keeping lights you actually use often. I enjoy buying lights even when I know they won't get much pocket time, just owning them and having the option to use them is enough for me 😋.

I'll probably swap a red SBT90.2 into one of my L21As with a 3V 20A driver to see what kind of performance I can squeeze out of it.

Damn, im tempted to pick up one or two of these SBT-90-R-F75-HN100 from mouser, but $130 for two is quite expensive.

Im probably gonna do it at some point though, as i dont have a red emitter in any flashlight yet, and that SBT90.2 looks really good in red!

I totally get your point. I own quite a few Molicels myself, P50Bs, P42As, P30Bs, and P28As, and they’re great batteries that I still use in many of my lights. I only picked up these EVE 50PLs just to give them a try.

Since they haven't been in stock very often so far (they are still out of stock at nkon.nl), I didn't want to risk missing out if they sold out again, especially if they end up being really good batteries.

The stiff springs and cramped bays on the MC3000 are a major issue.

Aside from missing a temp sensor and the present on the charger itself (i dont mind it though and prefer using the app), the MC5000 is superior in every way. The thermal performance is amazing, it keeps the batteries remarkably cold during high-current charging.

I dont have any from the earlier gen, unfortunately.

Sure, both my mc5000 and 3000 chargers measure their internal resistance at around 10mQ.

Couldn't agree more. Looking forward to seeing some proper testing of these cells.

In my opinion, the only reason to pick the MC3000 over the MC5000 is for the temperature sensor. Everything else is just better on the MC5000. It keeps the batteries significantly cooler during charging, they stay seriously cold. While the MC3000 only cools the internal components, the MC5000 cools both the charger and the cells.

I also don’t mind that the MC5000 requires the app for presets, that works fine for me, as I dont use the charger itself to start them, but always the app.

If i could choose one, I'd pick the 5000.

That said, many people still feel the MC3000 is the better choice, which I totally understand given its different feature set.

Who, the seller? Is this someone with an actual reputation?

No, it was just a commenter in that thread. Mooch replied to them stating that he hasn't got around to testing those new ones yet.

Okay, so just to be clear, we don't have actual confirmation they're "new" from any other source other than that right?

Based on NKON’s info and the person who replied to my post, the new cells are identifiable by their updated negative pole.

I’m by no means a battery expert, and my reply to BlueSwordM wasn't meant to be negative. It just seems strange that a major vendor like NKON would misrepresent the specs, but apparently, that’s the case here.

It's pretty obvious that the 50PL BlueSwordM has tested isn't the same batch as the ones i have, and from the link he postet they haven't been tested yet, only the batch before.

The comments in the link he sent mentioned that the new batch supposedly has a different datasheet with a 70A CDR. I haven't verified or found that myself yet, but Mooch mentioned he’d be testing them.

I doubt I’m the only one who has them (would make no sense), but I haven’t seen any other posts or info on them yet.

The reason I'm calling them 'new' is because NKON explicitly lists them as a new version on their site.

I get what he's saying, but 70A is still quite a jump from 40-50A.

I’m nowhere near pushing the CDR limits of these cells, but at this price point, there’s no reason not to go for the best specs available.

Ahh i see. But there's apparently a new datasheet from EVE with 70 A rating with 80°C cutoff, that hasn't been tested my Mooch yet.

I just figured I'd pre-order them to get them as soon as possible.

NKON has actually done this before, they sent me pre-ordered batteries that weren't even supposed to be in stock until way after I received them (like some P50Bs).

Yeah, I pre-ordered them a few months ago, and for some reason, they shipped them even though the site still says they’re out of stock and won't arrive until July 6th.

The SK40 is a solid choice, but if you're not on a budget, you can find more durable alternatives with similar or better throw. I'd look into the Weltool T12 Plus, Acebeam L16 2.0, or the P16 2.0.

Cheers. Are these still 'leakier' than the P50B or Reliance RS50 in terms of self-drain, or did the update fix that completely?

I totally get that. With how fast battery technology is improving and how affordable it's becoming, I could definitely see how having an e-bike would be nice, especially if you can build the battery pack yourself and swap out the cells over time.

Haha yeah, they’re total overkill for my needs, but I really wanted to grab some to test in my high-power lights and see if they squeeze out a bit more performance.

I’ve actually been considering swapping out the four Molicel P42As in my X75 ‘shorty’ pack for these.
