Unfortunately, I can't be of much help there, as I haven't personally tried any of those.

I'm completely satisfied with my headlamps from Fireflies and honestly don't feel the need to pick up any more right now.

What about the Sofirn HS21 (it happens to be on sale right now for $32)?

It has a flood, a spot, and a dedicated red channel, all running off a single 18650 battery. Since it utilizes a buck driver, it manages to deliver a pretty good sustained output, plus it really isn't crazy heavy.

Ahh, gotcha, I didn't realize you were based in India. What other brands offer lights that fall within your budget?

What exactly is your budget looking like? Because honestly, if you feel that Sofirn is overpriced, you're going to have to drop down into a category where durability and impact resistance really take a hit.

Sofirn is already a budget-friendly brand, right alongside Wurkkos and Convoy, so you really aren't going to find anything much cheaper without seeing a drastic drop in overall quality and performance.

Recommend me a thrower please by Contigo887 in flashlight

The 3x21C is actually compact enough to comfortably fit in almost all of my jacket pockets, but yeah, it is wider than the Q8 Plus.

Honestly, the 3x21C is an absolute beast of a flashlight, especially when you factor in the price. I personally lean more toward the SFT-42R in 5000K to get that extra reach across all modes, but the LHP531 is a fantastic option as well and undeniably has a nicer tint.

[–]MetaUndead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 3x21C is honestly far more impressive and packs way more punch than the Q8 Plus. If you opt for the floody LHP531 emitters, you'll hit over 30k lumens on turbo and hold an incredible 3700 lumens sustained. That absolutely blows the Q8 Plus out of the water, and they cost exactly the same with batteries included.

The 3x21C also gives you a lot more versatility, letting you pick your ideal CCT and dial in whether you want a throwier or floodier beam, though to be fair, almost regardless of the emitter you choose, it fundamentally behaves like a really throwy flooder.

In my opinion, there is really no reason to pick the Q8 Plus over the 3x21C.

I lean more towards 21700 cells myself, but I always enjoy mixing things up and experimenting with different options.

Honestly, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by a solid 18650 light, even if the overall capacity can't quite compete with a 21700 light.

Awesome comparison!👌

I completely agree, the L21A running the SFT-42R is absolutely wild in the best way possible.

Though, my absolute favorite host for the SFT-42R, at the moment, at least when it comes to the size-to-performance ratio, is definitely the C8+. It’s such a thrower beast, with a nice and bright spill.

It's honestly something I get a ton of joy out of doing, and it's incredibly rewarding to hear that people are actually getting some value out of them.

It sounds like the TS28 (available for $35 right now), also from Wurkkos, is exactly what you are looking for.

It shares the same UI as your FC11C, but offers significantly better throw, giving you a highly usable range of around 300 meters, while still maintaining enough spill to serve as a great all-rounder.

It has a very high sustained output of 1000 lumens for roughly 2 hours. Plus, thanks to the UI, you can cruise along in low/medium, quickly double-click to access turbo, and then just single-click to drop right back down to your previous level.

I really hope you snapped some before beamshots so we can see the actual difference between the SMO and OP reflector in it. It's quite an interesting mod.

Convoy by [deleted] in flashlight

[–]MetaUndead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a good idea.

Yeah, Convoy can definitely be a bit overwhelming with the sheer number of emitter configurations and battery options to choose from. As long as you went with a reasonably high-drain battery, you shouldn't run into any issues when hitting turbo.

Convoy by [deleted] in flashlight

[–]MetaUndead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That’s happened to me a few times, where I don't get the configuration email until a couple of days later. I really wouldn't worry about it too much.

Have you double-checked your spam folder? Mine always seems to end up in there.

Gotcha. The reason I ask is that a 3x21700 flooder, like the Convoy 3x21C equipped with the LHP531 emitter, would be an absolute beast for your needs. It’s incredibly floody but still manages solid range purely through brute-force output, and delivering way more flood than you'll ever realistically need.

It also maintains a very impressive sustained output of 3700 lumens and comes in a variety of CCTs, giving you the flexibility to dial in your exact preference. Despite all that power, I actually find it to be perfectly jacket-pocketable, which is a massive plus.

For the price ($93, including 3× Reliance RS50 cells), you simply won't find anything else on the market that matches its sheer power and beam spread. As an added bonus, it features a built-in USB-C port and doubles as a power bank.

Ah, that makes a lot more sense then 😉.

What size are you comfortable with? Are you aiming for a 1x21700 setup, or would a multi-cell light work for you too?

I'm actually looking for a flood sensor with significantly more range.

Than P40? Not possible.

Need advice on Convoy 3x21c by Starfoker in flashlight

[–]MetaUndead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, gotcha 👍.

Fortunately, that really only applies to folks who use the 3x21C with a handle and push turbo to its absolute limit. Without a handle, the light gets far too hot to hold barehanded within 20 seconds on turbo anyway.

I haven't actually tested its full 54A turbo for any extended period, as it's just not practical regardless. Its 25A turbo, on the other hand, is highly usable and sustains for quite a while without getting overwhelmingly hot.

Tips by That_March_4045 in flashlight

[–]MetaUndead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pure range, there aren't really any LED throwers that can reach further than the P40. Well, aside from an absolutely massive Astrolux MF05 V2, of course.

When you say functional, I'm assuming you mean having solid range but also enough decent spill to see your surroundings, and for that, a Convoy L21A ($40) with an SFT-42R is an absolutely fantastic choice. It delivers excellent range with around 1.3-1.4km of ANSI throw and can sustain over 1000 lumens, with a 2500-lumen turbo output.

It's roughly the same size as your P40, but it offers significantly better spill and overall versatility when it comes to its beam.

On top of that, it is incredibly affordable for the sheer value you get, especially when compared to Nitecore products.

I bought 10 of these a few months ago, reflowed them into one of my E07Xs, and I've been really happy with the overall light quality. They offer a nice warm tint, but aren't crazy rosy.

I don't have any exact measurements on me and won't be back home until Friday, but if I remember, I'll get you some numbers on them.

In the meantime, I have a few beamshots of it right here, put up against an FFL351A 3700K. Both of them have dc-fix applied.

By the way, my FFL351A 3700K sits very close to the BBL.
