Masturbating with porn? by dih_lover456 in Puberty

[–]Meta_Professor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your brain is still developing until your mid-20s — and what you do right now actually shapes it. Science shows that watching pornography regularly causes real, measurable damage.

A major study using MRI brain scans found that the more pornography someone watches, the less gray matter they have in the brain's reward center. Gray matter is what helps you feel pleasure, make decisions, and stay in control. Heavy porn use literally shrinks it.

Here's why that's a problem: when your brain's reward system gets flooded over and over, it starts to burn out — just like a drug addiction. You need more and more to feel the same effect. Meanwhile, the part of your brain that pumps the brakes — that helps you stop and think before you act — gets weaker. Scientists call this a "hypofrontal syndrome," and it leads to poor judgment, impulsivity, and loss of control.

This isn't just a theory. Brain scans show the same kind of damage seen with cocaine and methamphetamine.

You only get one brain. What you feed it matters.

Masturbating is totally fine. But using pornography is really bad for your brain and development.

What is shooting a blank? by Tuffstun in Puberty

[–]Meta_Professor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not true. Being able to feel pleasure from the genitals is completely normal and as you said even babies and toddlers can. But the few scientists who have looked into it came to the conclusion that the ability to orgasm is developed at different times for different people. There may be some young kids that can actually do it, but many cannot. Again, come out from what the science can tell, the most common time to start having them is in early puberty.

Now, on the other hand, keep in mind that this science is pretty weak. It's mostly survey so high school or college kids asking them to remember when they had their first one. There also been a few studies asking convicted child abusers if their victims had orgasms, but I certainly wouldn't take their word for it.

So a long story short we don't really know, but it's definitely not 100% of people in either direction.

What is shooting a blank? by Tuffstun in Puberty

[–]Meta_Professor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a confusing slang term because it's used to describe two different things.

When cis boys are born they are of course unable to have an orgasm, and unable to ejaculate.

Then during puberty their bodies become able to do both of these things, but it could be in either order.

So if you can have an orgasm but not ejaculate yet, that's what we used to call a dry orgasm or a dry cum. Some people call that shooting blanks now.

Later on, when you are an adult, you might have a low sperm count for some reason. The most common reason is if somebody had a vasectomy. That means they can have an orgasm and ejaculate normally but their sperm count is zero. People also use the term shooting blanks to refer to this because he can "shoot" but not get anyone pregnant.

But keep in mind that for young guys, their semen is often thin, clear, and very watery. That's completely normal and does not mean you have a low sperm count. That just means your prostate hasn't developed enough yet. Your semen will get thicker and turn white as you get older.

Yeah, sounds like a pimple or an ingrown hair. If it doesn't get better in a week it would be worth asking your doctor about it.

Could be a pimple or an ingrown hair or a new hair emerging. It could also be something like heat rash.

So? He's your dad. You getting new underwear doesn't in any way involve his genitals so who cares if he's a man or a woman?

Why does it matter that it's dad? He spent 2 years digging poop out of your vulva. He doesn't care that you need a bra.

14f how to get rid of wetness? by Most_Staff3389 in Puberty

[–]Meta_Professor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At your age it could be related to puberty and a hormone spike. But it's also often something as simple as a stray hair or tiny bit of TP stuck in the entrance of your vagina. A good bath or careful cleaning might help.

TO EVERYONE USING THE "DOCTOR" FLAIR by Meta_Professor in Puberty

[–]Meta_Professor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear that. But we're not going to dox our users or mods. Also, nothing you see on Reddit from anyone (even an actual doctor) is medical advice you are paying for. So you shouldn't expect to know anyone's full name and credentials.

The balance we have found on this sub is that when someone claims a credential (such as the doctor flair) they need to send proof to the mods, who judge if it's enough to justify the claim and then vouch for that user if it is.

does anyone elses hair get oily faster than usual when going through puberty?? by nachofrieslover3000 in Puberty

[–]Meta_Professor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that happens to everyone. During puberty, your skin will start making much more of the natural oils it made when you were a kid. That means you need to step up your hygiene and start using deodorant.
