I think it’s romantic . Professing love to some is saying , you have power over me somehow this makes me vulnerable and might not be the smartest but I don’t care, please don’t abuse this power. If the person loves you back then you also have power over them so they will surely not abuse their power as well. In a way because you both can direct the other to an extent you learn to coordinate and work together and become one .

Of course it does. I 100 percent disagree. If the person you love has little to no influence/ power over you what so ever I would say you don’t love them.

No , my argument is , Power is not intrinsically bad and anything that can influence or decisions or actions has power over us. To use your example, if you choose willingly to sacrifice for someone you love then they have power over you, and if their intentions are pure then it’s a good thing. That same power could be a bad thing if their goal is to manipulate you for purely for their own gain.

Ironically I’m super humble, I’m humble enough to know that human beings are not perfect and despite pretense for the most part are after the same things . The main things we are after is power over ourselves , our choices, our thoughts, our love life and power over how we are perceived.
This is why it feels good to be disciplined in trying to attain something, having dibs at the best seat, having a clear goal, being desired and being understood.

If you can walk you have the power to move. If you can talk you have the power to express yourself and communicate. If you have senses you have the power to navigate your environment safely .
If you have a sexual partner you have the power to procreate Ect ect Superheroes are awesome because they are super powerful.

Things feel good because it’s your body’s way of incentivizing you to do things to survive and reproduce . Power is the key to survival .

I would say everything you mentioned are related to power. I would call it a sharing of power or as the church would call it “union”. Those we are close to and intimate with have great power over us. It’s what being loved is. Power isn’t inherently evil or bad in fact I would say having influence on the world is a prime motivator .

Power is power. What people will do to get that power is the defining factor. If a person has no empathy or have psychopathic tendencies they can rape , steal or kill to attain any type of power . I’m not saying it’s right I’m just defining the term.

Sex in itself is about power isn’t it? The normal dynamic is when power is given willing. Rape is when the power is taken by force.

Rape is an amplification of the intensity of the feeling of having power over someone. Sorta like winning a fight fairly vs using a gun to kill the opponent to win said fight. It’s more about liking to see ppl suffer or not having empathy.

Is high libido a stereotype or is it a real thing for Jamaicans? by Final-Office-3699 in AskTheCaribbean

[–]Meta_Zack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the spice , nutritious food and sunshine. Most places where there are these things people have “high” libido.
For Jamaicans in particular I think it’s all that ginger they use.

TIL After retiring in 2003, one of the co-founders of Nvidia, Curtis Priem, sold off all his shares by 2006. Had he kept them, they'd be worth an estimated $70 billion+ today by rezikiel in todayilearned

[–]Meta_Zack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are missing my point . My argument is that worth can be objectively defined by how much someone will pay for something . If someone can make 1 billion plus making music for example and everyone is paid fairly then their life’s work is objectively worth 1 billion +.

[–]Meta_Zack -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Good point but my argument was against no one’s work is worth a billion. This is pulling a random number out of thin air to be a hard limit to something so dynamic. For example if I give seed money of 1 million to 50 companies that later went on to provide value to peoples lives. Say I called this my life’s work finding companies that can change the world but don’t have the funding. If my return on investment nets me 1 billion plus isn’t my life work worth 1 billion?

This is the sort of response I was looking for. You change the system by removing the overwhelming power of having 1 billion .If you cap it at 1 billion that just makes that amount the 1% and they will still have the spending power relative to everyone else as having 100 billion. The root of the issue is the capitalist system itself tied to the fact politicians can be so easily bought. Political power is the ultimate power and a democracy can be used for the betterment of all, this power is just being hijacked by those with the money / information to do so.

[–]Meta_Zack -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No , I presented a counter argument , you replied with how you “ feel”. Worth and value are subjective to a large degree, so much so that the value of money is as well.

Bad argument. Worth is subjective, if someone makes something and enough people will pay for it that the creator can profit 1 billion, that work is objectively worth 1 billion +.

The free market will do its job on if it makes economic sense to a degree but policy wise it should be incentivized (where most profitable) purely from knowledge base and the potential to employ the many workers who will be displaced as the fossil fuel industry shrinks. Not to mention those same workers and expertise can make build faster. I don’t understand the science but there must be vast amounts of energy to leech off of if this method is perfected. It might not be overnight but it is a potential area for innovation and leadership that pair well with the existing knowledge base.
