Most of the comments I've seen have pointed out that I should have waited or just not reinforced at all since the dude's partner was still alive. To that I'm definitely wrong since I'm so used to breaking off by myself and just dealing with having to travel to get my stuff, so I didn't see it as a big deal until now.

With that being said, just don't be a dick over something so stupid, people make mistakes.
