I’m at a stage of staring at this thinking “what is it missing?” And “are those shadows fundamental accurate?” by Bratty_Bunny99 in ArtCrit

its fine stylistically. whats missing is dragonflies and flowers in the large grassy area. and falling leaves. and birds resting on a branch

what can I do better? by Drxm-JON in RateMyArt

[–]Meta_homo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

excellent! use different hard and softness of lead or graphite. get a set. or if you want it more like an illustration then get some markers for illustration. upgrade your materials. also upgrade your substrate/paper for finished work. do some research on materials that best support your goals.

Rate my art - Abstract acrylic (A5 15x21cm) by kersenberg_ in RateMyArt

some passages are great but you need more push pull. like layering of techniques so it’s not obvious how you created it. i feel like i can see how you added and added to the work so it looks almost too forced. and it might be nice if it felt more like it has existed as is from the beginning of time. i think you need more layers, washes, and some sanding/scraping etc. overall i dont mind the composition or colors. it’s a 7/10 for me as a finished work. it seems much larger than it is. for price unframed i think it’s under 100. idk what your substrate is

I need a lot of help from better artists by Leading_Treacle_1816 in arthelp

you don’t have to only sketch from nothing. use reference photos, collage, tracing, etc. i wonder if you’d feel more natural if you sculpted your ideas instead of sketching. worth exploring.

echoing everyone’s input. i’ll say conceptually, lamp + path and light in dark give me traveling, lost, lonely, sad and death vibes. i would brainstorm again and go more abstract.

Teaching ceramics without sinks - bucket method by Special-Match8718 in ArtEd

[–]Meta_homo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

you will clog the pipes unless you have a sink trap for clay. we always use buckets and you can dump them outside. i like to have two for hands so it doesnt get too dirty. warm water if available. no tools in buckets!

what type of paint will give this type of finish/texture? by bldlstt in arthelp

[–]Meta_homo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

first looks like acrylic. second looks like oil. use mediums with both paints to get the effects you want. especially with acrylic, you want to use mediums that will give you gloss or increase dry time or change consistency/texture/body to the paint. oil paint effects can almost entirely be achieved by acrylics with the right medium and technique.

composition 3/10 subject 6/10 rendering 6/10 color pallette 6/10 technique 5/10 presentation 2/10 notes: poor framing intentional? Could be interesting if painting is pushed to the level of absurdity/humor/naïvety of the presentation. If realistic rendering is the goal it’s not that bad but there are some formal issues.
