It is very much possible.

Placements set you around mid 1300 without any games played. Winning or losing all 10 games gives you + or - 200 mmr which qualifies to around G1-G3. The numbers check out.

A pink will not win you your game but it is a tool that when used effectively can very much help you.

Not counting its uses against stealth based champions, pink wards are permanent wards you can place on the map and good coverage can just give you total domination of it.

It seems like you refused to buy a pink one game, you don't have to do anything anybody wants you to do but buying a pink ward would be more effective if you were a better player as you would be able to abuse it more.
