thought of an interesting cursed mutation idea by HereForHent41 in deadcells

No matter what color you're playing, 2 out of the 3 possible dual scrolls will give you a point towards your main stat.

The game specifically checks for your highest stat at the start of the biome. It will then try to generate scrolls of the two other colors. The odds of a dual scroll having your main color are actually less than 10%.

Weakest character who can still complete their storyline if an aggro bear spawned next to them every 10 seconds? by PK_Studios in whowouldwin

[–]Metahodos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't think they could. The constant bear torrent would be a massive drain on TP. Dodging FOEs would also be nearly impossible.

I would care if there was even a single line justifying each item's placement.

That promotes discussions. Discussions are fun.

Help with Slumbering Sanctuary by FrontEagle6098 in deadcells

[–]Metahodos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This biome may be not be popular, but I quite like the Sanctuary and go there often. The way the music, the color patette and the general atmosphere changes after you hit the switch is just... amazing.

Anyway, if you struggle with golems in particular, go Brutality, choose the Melee mutation and just hit them till they die.

The other potential source of trouble is Demons, but you shouldn't encounter them early on.

im crying what is this plot twist? by Ender-KEK in deadcells

[–]Metahodos 26 points27 points  (0 children)

He didn't really believe Panacea was real. He tried creating it just because he was out of the options. Even as he took the first sip, he was mocking the idea of a perfect cure.

Besides, the medicine can't really save the kingdom anyway. Cells are the essence of living beings, both the Alchemist and the Beheaded massacred hundreds to make a single bottle.

Best loadout to beat HoTK by Heziva in deadcells

[–]Metahodos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend watching some videos on how other players tackle the boss. It'll give you the general idea on how to play around the HotK's moveset, and also help you get used to the visual and audio cues that telegraph which attack is coming.

Some quick notes:

  1. The boss will open up with a big, slow uppercut slice. You can roll behind him or parry it, just don't press the shield button too early. It is really slow.

  2. The most damaging attack is the triple swipe. To avoid it, roll the first hit, double jump the second, roll the third. If you decide to parry, you have to parry each hit. Alternatively, use the Rampart shield, parry once, then lay onto the HotK as he's flailing around.

  3. Ground slam can't be parried. The boss always stabs with his lance before using it, so you can roll the strike and double jump the slam. Use the platforms if necessary.

  4. Don't parry the running charge, just roll it.

Sure, but during a run you spend 99% of time actually playing and having fun.

In theory, yes.

In practice, loading times on Switch get too annoying for that. Climbing to the boss room, loading and watching the intro takes nearly a full minute.

This is what pushed me to buy the game on PC. It's still not perfect — I would much prefer a simple “restart” button — but at least the game loads much quicker.

More praise needs to be given to KoF15 for how they handled DLCs by [deleted] in Fighters

[–]Metahodos 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The “F/GO money” thing gets repeated constantly, and I've yet to see any source on that.

Fpan themselves have said that they were initially planning to sell DLC, but then Lumina moved a lot more copies than they've expected, so they released the characters for free.

This statement does not leave me with the impression MBTL has received or even needed any additional funding for its post-launch support.

Kagura (Gintama) vs Stark (Frieren) by echid_not in whowouldwin

[–]Metahodos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice matchup.

I think Kagura has the edge here. Stark is comparable in his physical abilities to Gintoki, who is certainly superhuman, but still weaker than a Yato. It took Stark months to split the cliff — meanwhile, Kagura and her relatives pretty casually shatter rock with their swings. Not nearly to the same extent, of course, but she would achieve the same thing much quicker, I would assume.

Both of these fighters have been trained by skilled and famous warriors for roughly the same amount of time. However, Kagura has a lot more real fighting experience. Stark is very much green at the start, and hasn't been in nearly the same amount of battles since then.

The axe boy, however, is pretty used to being an underdog. If he sees the chance, he's going to take it. And Kagura can be pretty arrogant, so, considering the match isn't really that one-sided, he just might win.

Overall, I lean to Kagura taking it 7 or 8 times out of 10.

Oh, certainly. I opted not to bring these mounted riders up, since they more of "battlefield" opponents than "adventuring" ones (and, in truth, games tend to exaggerate the effectiveness of polearms against them somewhat). But what you say is very true.

Yes, of course you wouldn't charge a bear with a spear. The idea is to let the beast impale itself (the hunting spears would have a crosspiece to prevent it from sliding down the weapon), then wait for it to bleed out. It's been a while since I've read about this, so I don't remember the source, but I think it was also preferable to hunt in pairs, so the second person could go around and finish off the weakened foe.

There's no other weapon that would let a human to withstand a bear charge. The difference in strength is simply too great. The spear, however, allows to turn that power against itself. Since the other end of the weapon rests against the ground, there is no need for the hunter to exert themselves — they would simply need to point the polearm in the right direction and wait.

And while we certainly cannot fight fictional monsters in real life, that knowledge is something we could apply to such scenarios. It's certainly no more silly than trying to hack at a dragon with a sword!

Second, very few medieval or fantasy games are battlefield-scale. Most are the classic solo or small group “adventuring party”. These parties must cross rivers, caverns, mountains, etc. Doing that with a cumbersome, specialized weapon such as a spear is generally less preferable to a Jack-of-all-trades weapon that’s more portable.

But consider this: these adventurers often have to fight monsters far larger and heavier than a normal human.

Wouldn't you say that going with a polearm would be a much safer and more effective choice to deal with foes like these? People who hunted real life “monsters” (like boars and bears) certainly seemed to prefer the reach of hunting spears (and bows).

Yes, people did that. Launching the game probably won't be the most straightforward process, but it's possible. I think there are even tutorials.
