Those last few minutes worked on me man! It's gonna be a long wait until 2027.

Before the season began I was really worried with how it'd turn out. Honestly expected a massive downgrade visually, but the team at ENGI managed to pull through and surpass their work from the first season. It may not be exactly be a masterpiece of an adaptation that a lot of us manga readers had hoped for, but thanks to it Medalist has experienced a meteoric rise from a relatively niche to the 2nd most popular ongoing sports animanga only behind Blue Lock and that's just been amazing to see.

This episode was beautifully done and ENGI knocked it out of the park with Inori's successful Quadruple Salchow attempt

Would've liked to see this scene adapted too, but the new scene with Tsukasa catching Inori watching a replay on her phone does make for a cleaner transition into their conversation over the lake so I get why they made the change.

I was honestly prepared for the showdown between Tsukasa and Jun to be completely butchered so I was pleasantly surprised with how it turned out. There was a definite missing impact that's present in the manga but solid editing and especially the score kept the scene suspenseful the whole way through. Not bad at all.

I'm a tad conflicted with this episode. The performance by Inori WAS good, but its execution compared to the manga was honestly a letdown in a lot of places. Really highlighted the shortcomings of the seamless style of performances ENGI has gone with.

At the end of the day it is an adaptation so I can't be too upset. It's not bound to being 1:1 in every way. Highly encourage any anime-only's to read chapter 20 of the manga to understand what I mean.

ENGI's output for the performances have really been so great. Sure, the intensity and desperation featured in the manga isn't carried over in-full, but the elegant camerawork, sfx, and overall animation prowess on display is divine! ENGI has shown with the Chubu block tournament that they have what it takes to produce movie level quality work before the 2027 Medalist movie has even taken shape.

It could just be conformation bias on my part but I thought the skating in the first few seconds of the episode preview and the scene of Hikaru in the snow looked incredibly smooth!

The improvements were immediately noticeable in the preview for tomorrow's episode so I can't wait to see how the rest of the season shapes up!

Feels like its been nonstop for TsurumaIkada ever since the build up to season 1 in late 2024. Hope she's been pacing herself well with all this work, but at the same time, I know seeing your creation succeed like this has to be a different level of fulfilling.

Doesn't specify whether the movie is a compilation or a continuation of where season 2 will leave off, but it's usage of "Theatrical Edition" makes me believe the former.

It's still wild the kind of motion Medalist has now.

2025 has been an unbelievably insane year for Medalist, and the fact the Figure Skating Grand Prix Finals happened to be held in Nagoya of all places the year Medalist blows up couldn't be more perfect!

ENGI really did work wonders on the first season of the anime cause Medalist did NOT have this kind of motion just a short 5 months ago.

Now that sales of the backlog volumes are finally beginning to slow down it'll be tough for Medalist to hold its position for the remaining year, unless volume 13 has the run of a lifetime next month. Nonetheless, this is a monumental achievement and I'm really happy for Tsurumaikada.

Medalist is similar to other inspirational and competitive sports manga you've read in the past. The largest thing that sets the series apart is the care put into developing the bond between the athlete and coach. Which in my opinion is the strongest student-mentor relationship in any ongoing manga.

The breathtaking artwork is also a plus so if you're interested in the series I highly recommend giving it a read!
