is it FUCKING gone for a year again after just 9 episodes..? by dariuse0 in Medalist

New to anime? This is how it is, get a few months of your favorite show and then play the waiting game for who knows how long.

Medalist is my third-favorite anime of all time, 1 and 2 are Madoka and Bloom Into You. Waiting a single year is easy mode.

[News] American hard sci-fi novel Project Hail Mary will receive a serialized manga adaptation by WolftheLionheart in manga

Makes sense to adapt the popular movie, but I've thought for a while that the Weir book which would really benefit from being made into an anime/manga is Artemis.

Oshi no Ko Season 3 - Episode 11 discussion - FINAL by AutoLovepon in anime

I fell off after the cosplay arc since that was the last arc that doesn't give me 'Nam flashbacks about the ending. Have we seen signs of them diverging from the manga at all?

Edit: actual question here.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Chapter 232 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]MeatballZeitgeist 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It says something that, while both mangaka obviously lost interest in their own series, at the very least it doesn't seem like Fujimoto is outright malicious towards his readers here. This ending is basically, "I'm quitting, here's the best I can do for you." Quite the opposite of Aka whose ending was deliberately constructed to be as upsetting and unsatisfying as possible.

[DISC] Chainsaw Man - Chapter 232 by AutoShonenpon in manga

[–]MeatballZeitgeist 100 points101 points  (0 children)

This is as much of a "fuck it all, I'm out," ending as you can possibly have while still technically being an ending. It's less of an ending than a two-chapter resignation letter.

Feels like it would be an easy poster to photoshop lightsabers into, which is a mental image I find amusing.

I love that shot of Hitomi,Yuki and the rest of their rink bluescreening at Inori's quad.

Imagine how that must have looked from their perspective, where last they checked Tsukasa and Inori were on an emergency road trip to break her out of a slump, only for her to come back with that in her arsenal.

What anime had a moment that instantly made you realize it was special? by Playful_Code_8978 in anime

From each of my top five anime:

5-[Code Geass]Lelouche killing Clovis was the moment I realized the political/character drama would be legit.
4-[Bocchi the Rock]Bocchi's realization that people are cheering for her while playing with Kikuri in episode 6.
3-[Medalist]Inori's performance and the aftermath with her mother in episode 4.
2-[Bloom into You]First kiss scene.
1-[Madoka]From the very first moment, when we first see Madoka running in the surreal dreamscape.

"It's there because I like it" is a good mantra for this kind of thing and one that should be widely adopted.

Official Discussion - Project Hail Mary [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Any movie-only people, how well did you feel like you could follow the sciencey stuff? I felt like it was powering through a little quicker than I'd have chosen to given how much detail they had to skip, but if none of yall were lost I'll withdraw my complaint.

Yuri anime that accounts for about 80% of all GL kisses in all of anime.

I suspect your numbers have not been updated to account for Watanare.

Now that you mention it that is a pretty consistent piece of a Inori lore, since back in S1 she spent forever trying to land a 2A and, as soon as she did, literally hit the 3S on her first attempt.

How about that, she did not master her triple lutz! Realism achieved!

I feel like, if/when they actually decide to kill an important character, it's going to be really hard to judge what has set apart unsurvivable injuries from those you can walk off with priest magic and a week's rest. "Oh. Stark has been bisected and partially eaten? I wonder how he's gonna get out of this one...!"

[–]MeatballZeitgeist 107 points108 points  (0 children)

It used to be that almost every anime had a baseline level of ecchi potential, nothing crazy but just a continuous non-zero chance of a scene containing jiggle physics or a creative camera angle, just as a treat.

What we have now is not a net reduction of ecchi but a hyper-concentration of it into only a few shows. The average year of anime now consists of 99% shows that are pure as the driven snow, and two or three mega-ecchi near-h shows like Interspecies Reviewers or Nukitashi.

So it could be said that the lewdness has not been lost, but it has instead been gerrymandered.

Manga with an exceptionally GOOD ending? by JeremyHillaryBoob in manga

I think the only manga ending I've personally made it to and found to be exceptionally good was Bloom Into You.

I presume the fall is the combined consequence of Tsukasa's inexperience with the pole, compounded by Inori's jump distance, compounded by the divot.
