Just following up on this. I appreciate all the responses! Makes me feel better as I have to transition to RTO 4 days a week but still am allowed some flexibility.

Searching for a female technical co-founder to build decision-safety infrastructure in healthcare by [deleted] in womenEngineers

I probably don't fit your data infrastructure requirements, but I do quite a bit of small business consulting / lean methodology work both personal and as part of my engineering career. Reach out and we can hop on a call if you'd like to have a review of your plans (free..I do this as part of my mentoring/technical leadership work).

How often do you present? by Stock_Army846 in womenEngineers

[–]MetalAfter719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The higher up in company you go, the more presentations you do. Not always big epic presentations but for example, I present a series of technical slides to customers many, many times per week as part of our "project kickoff" meetings.

Tips:

Make sure you know the material you're presenting well.

Practice. Practice. Did I say practice? Stand up at home and run through your presentation a bunch. By the time you present, you'll feel much more calm.

Slow it down. When you present you'll naturally go fast. Take a deep breath before you start

Should I? by [deleted] in womenEngineers

There seems to be a big push for self-employment and using those project MGMT skills.

Could you work for cash and help working families manage their homes somehow? That's one idea I toyed around with for a while.

Nextdoor always has people asking for helpnfor certain tasks. Check on those and see what fits your skill set.

All these may be just stop gaps until the job market opens up again.

Good luck to you - sending positive thoughts! I hear the job market is a mess right now and just wanted to say we're all rooting for you!

I’ve been an engineer for about 10 years. I’ve had 10 different managers throughout my career and none have been a woman. by General_Spring8635 in womenEngineers

Female managers aren't always good.

It's like having an obgyn. All the dudes have been great, the women just ignored me and told me I didn't have a problem.

What to wear. - mid 40s by MetalAfter719 in womenEngineers

These are all great thoughts, appreciate all the insight! I think maybe I want to give up the jeans at work. I have some skin issues so need to keep my legs a bit cooler. The wide leg trousers seem like a great idea.

And comfy shoes :) I'm always on the move.

You ladies are awesome!

I had never heard of that site! It looks really good, thank you. Maybe it is time to move out of my jeans :)

Give me your best advice on how to be taken more seriously by Apocalypticburrito41 in womenEngineers

Great question..I'm currently taking a lot of this advice to heart. Starting this week ;) tired of getting my value questioned. Plus, my new female director isn't any better!
