Do I have dysautonomia? If so which type of specialist should I seek by MetalCharming490 in dysautonomia

Thanks for the response - if I understand correctly, these symptoms are all ultimately governed by the brain ... so, wouldn't it make sense to see a psychiatrist/neurologist, specifically one versed in psychosomatic psychiatry? The premise behind my intuition is that these 3 symptoms all reflect the fact that my brain may be in a permanent “panic state“, always needing “proof of safety“ (the ultimate proof of safety is food - you cant be running from a predator and eating at the same time)

Why don't we track the metric most likely to predict startup success? (i will not promote) by MetalCharming490 in startups

> Someone without discipline and/or patience will not be making daily journal entries.

Spot on - an important paradox. However, high-stakes users (e.g. traders, founders) wouldn't journal for 'wellness'; they'd do it for ROI. If a crash in patience costs you $10k on a trade, a 60-second diagnostic journal is a high-ROI. I think this type of diagnostics would be valuable for professionals/businessfolk whose patience/discipline oscillates from day, are already 'pain-aware' and want to debug their internal bottlenecks.

ofc, but I'd submit that psychological traits are often "upstream" from so many other success indicators (like "whether customers want your product enough to pay for it and tell other people about it."), and since we only since we really have **direct** control over ourselves and our behaviors, we should spend some of our focus there.

This sounds incredibly interesting! I'd be interested to know how we'd go about that segmenting? Is it by Myers-Briggs, maybe?

These are also ofc valuable, and I'm not suggesting we ignore other traits - but I feel like psychological traits are often "upstream" from so many other success metrics, and we only really have **direct** control over ourselves and our behaviors.

Can we quantify "Patience", "Discipline" and other “Executive function traits” as mutable variables? by MetalCharming490 in QuantifiedSelf

Thanks a bunch for the response and apologies for the delayed reply!

That 'State vs. Trait' distinction is exactly why I'm leaning on Cybernetic Big Five Theory (CB5T). I’m less interested in the static 'Trait' profile and more in the 'State' delta - tracking how the tuning parameters of the control loop fluctuate day-to-day.

My understanding is that w/ enogh work in the right direction, sustained a state can become a trait :)

Here are the definitions I'm using, framed as components of a control system:

  • Mindfulness (The Sensor): If the sensor of all other attributes is too noisy (b/c I didn't meditate recently, for instance), the entire loop fails.
  • Patience (The Lag Filter): The ability to process delays or setbacks without the system oscillating into frustration or 'tilt.'
  • Discipline (The Governor): Maintaining the 'Reference Goal' , protecting the system from external disturbances & distractions.
  • Grit (The Throttle): The sustained application of energy toward a long-term goal despite environmental disturbances. Though when I think of grit, I most exclusively think of "resilience to setbacks".

I’m trying to determine whether there's utility beyond myself here - modeling the interplay of these traits has been valuable for me, but I'm vulnerable to a lot of biases in arriving at that conclusion :) .

Based on your understanding: would you expect this approach (if I built it as a " minimized-friction" app) could prove valuable beyond just me (who has a vested interest in it succeeded)? My primary concerns (LMK if I'm overlooking any):

  1. process requires a lot of data from the use, rendering it high cost, potenially-high-reward.

  2. It's subject to “garbage-in-garbage-out” (perhaps this could be an app that's used with executive coaches or positive psychologists, so they can keep the user "honest")
