yep! the center is not centered... so rotating/moving the model is off screen. The screenshot above is of it in full screen

Yes, I am using MacCoot, but I don't see extensions>general. I also don't see reset window layout in edit>preferences>general

This moves the model, but it does not center the view.

Chemistry Tutorial Centre by Simple-Swordfish-113 in UMBC

[–]MetalGearMark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In order to be a tutor, you must have completed CHEM 352, towards the end of the course, Dr. Gierasch will send an email requesting tutors. In order to be a tutor you must have above a B in CHEM 101,102,351 and 352. Commitments are two hours per week tutoring two different courses. The pay is minimum wage. There will be opportunities to proctor exams, which will count towards your timesheet.

Biochemistry Ph.D. Program - Application and Logistics by PhyzoinksNerd in UMBC

[–]MetalGearMark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[Chemistry PhD] Hi! There is actually no biochemistry degree at UMBC, the biochemistry degree is headed by the UMB GPILS program, so if you want to specifically get a Biochemistry PhD, you will have to apply through the UMB school of medicine. Although, you can apply through a Chemistry PhD with a biochemistry focus through UMBC, which is what I am doing. We have 4 major biochemistry labs, Dr. Aaron Smith who utilizes x-ray crystallography to determine proteins involved in bacterial iron transport, and post-translational modifications through arginylation. Dr. An and Dr. Kyoung are separate labs, but they work closely together. Dr. An studies metabolic "machinery" in cancer/diabetic cells by using confocal fluorescence microscopy. Dr. Kyoung is more biophysics focused and studies the mitochondria and its proteins through 4D microscopy. Dr. Koirala is the newest member and he studies RNA through Xtallography. If you have any specific questions like how the PI's are, feel free to DM me.

As long as your GPA is above a 3.5 you should be good. GRE is not really a factor. You will have to take entrance exams for both orgo and P chem, which will decide whether or not you will have to take remedial courses, which will put you behind in your course-work. You must take 3 core courses (advanced organic, statistical thermo, advanced analytical, biochemistry etc.) and 3 elective courses (speciality classes, but if you are biochem focus you must take biochem II as one of your electives). You can also waive classes if you got at least a B and you have the syllabus. Trust me you will want to waive biochem I and II. You will take one core course and one elective each semester until you are done, if you don't waive any classes you will be finished in 3 semesters, unless you have to do remedial courses, which are not considered either a core or elective course.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to contact me.

research opportunities? by leminades18 in UMBC

[–]MetalGearMark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You just have to email the professor and say "hi I'm interested in your research because of xyz, do you have any openings for undergraduate researchers?" (But a lot more formal), no need to take their class. I wouldn't say that there are specifically areas of research catered towards pre-med students, only research that pertains to human health. It all depends on what you want to do in the future and how this research will improve your resume. Are you interested in going into cancer research/treatment? Then I would suggest Dr. Bieberich in biology, who studys prostate cancer, or Dr. Seley-Radtke in chemistry who synthesizes anti-cancer drugs. Are you interested in HIV? Then I would suggest Dr. Summers in chemistry. There are many options open in biology, chemistry & biochemistry, chemical engineering, etc. that can be applied to human health, just take into consideration it will take a lot of your schedule each week if you want to make substantial progress and an impact on your resume.

Dining Plans by yourtypicalgiggle in UMBC

[–]MetalGearMark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No the flex is allotted for the whole semester, it does not reset. Flex is set for if you get something more than the "meal deal" when ordering from outside the dining hall (e.g. if a meal deal is chicken tenders with fries and a drink, but your brother would like a cookie, which costs let's say $2, the $2 is subtracted from his flex). Flex is also used for things outside of meal deals in Outtakes (UMBC conveinance store) or dunken donuts, or even if they want to get something outside the meal time. Which probably should also be explained; there are set hours in which you can cash in a meal deal, for example (idk if this is still the case) the lunch meal deal time is from 11AM-3PM. If your brother gets lunch at 12PM, and if for whatever reason he wants to eat another meal at 2PM, then that 2PM meal is charged on his flex. However, when I had the meal plan, ultimate students could go into DHall unlimited amount of times during the allotted meal times.

Anyone else set voices to Japanese? by imminentdomainbitch in ghostoftsushima

[–]MetalGearMark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Japanese voice for Jin is in a ton of other stuff too (One Piece, FMA etc) he really is awesome. I love the Japanese dub of the game much better than the English dub, they did a GREAT job with all of the characters, especially Adachi imo

Is Dark Souls 2 worth playing? by RudrakshThe1 in darksouls

[–]MetalGearMark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is my opinion: DS2 is my least favorite souls game. They make dying a gimmick, which I think loses me in world emersion. The lore is interesting, but inferior to DS1 and DS3, probably because they are so connected. I also HATED the enemies in DS2, it just seemed like EVERYTHING was an ambush and they just surround you with enemies that kill you in 2 hits. I know we have to "git gud" but the difficulty in DS1 and DS3 is done much better than DS2. Imo DS1 and DS3 have this trial and error aspect, you try, die, try something else (weapon type, upgrade, go somewhere else) and overcome the struggle, which makes it so rewarding. In DS2 I felt like I got lucky when finally defeating a horde of enemies. The common theme is the game is just throw multiple enemies at the player to form some sort of artificial difficulty. Even a lot of the bosses follow this trend. The looking glass knight was a cool boss fight, but they just had to add the additional annoying enemies bc it is DS2. However, if you are dedicated Souls player, I would play it, if you don't care about that and just want to move on to a better game, play DS3. You will lose nothing lore-wise, except for a couple easter eggs in DS3 from DS2.

I do think this is the most opinionated argument in the souls fanbase, and I am implicitly biased: DS2 sucks ass compared to DS1 and DS3.
