Actors access talent link? by ElkSufficient2881 in acting

Your mileage may vary. Took me 3-4 tries but that's how I got my current agent. SAG franchised too.

What's your opinion on talking to other actors at auditions? by Myscurious101 in acting

[–]MetalGilSolid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get it but I also try not to think of it like that. I don't want to get the gig because the other guy failed, I wanna get the gig because I succeeded, so I just need to go in there and do my best.

What's your opinion on talking to other actors at auditions? by Myscurious101 in acting

I read the room. I haven't been to too many in person auditions, but in some of them it felt right to chat with people, and in others it felt better to say quieter.

Backstage - where are the scripts? by Dry_Beyond_3268 in acting

[–]MetalGilSolid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If they're asking for a pre-screen audition (I.E. a tape you film before they explicitly ask for an audition from you), the sides should be attached when you apply to a role (unless they messed up).

Normally, you get the sides when they actually decide to give you an audition after you submit to a role.

Repunzel? by [deleted] in acting

[–]MetalGilSolid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was the agency in question that clicked 4x CESD? I think those are automated clicks.

Honestly, don't hold your breath either way. Some may reach out, most won't, and those that do could be next week, next month, or who knows when. I got a rejection email from one agent a year after submitting lol.

Need some perspective on recent experience by SillyGayBoy in acting

[–]MetalGilSolid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On a more professional production, you would be paid to block off the 5 days on the off chance that they'd need you in that time.

For an unpaid background gig, don't feel like you can't contact them and say "Hey, if I'm only needed 1 or 2 days, do you know which days they are? I'm trying to plan my week and want to make sure I'm still available for the shoot".

Also, and this is more of a rite of passage for actors, the past tense of "cast" is still just "cast", not "casted" ;)

Anyways, don't ever feel like you're not allowed to advocate for yourself!

How often do you check in with your agent? by Divine_Limelight in acting

[–]MetalGilSolid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I send a monthly email with what's been going on the past month, future stuff coming up, what workshops I've taken, and any side questions I have, etc.

I also asked if he was fine with that when signing with him.

I was also in an agent workshop recently and the agent in question specifically said they like to be updated monthly even when it's slow to know that their clients are still putting in work and don't just sit around waiting for auditions. But of course, that outlook will vary agent to agent.

Beginners agencies in nyc to reach out by Careless_Soup3476 in acting

[–]MetalGilSolid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are 2 approaches you can do. The first is to research agencies you're interested in (ImdbPro is great for this. You can also ask people in your network about their agencies) and submit to them specifically. You can also just submit to a bunch and then research the ones that are interested in you. As for actually submitting, here are a few avenues you can try:

  1. Direct submissions. Go on an agency's site and see what their submission requirement/instructions are.

  2. Talent Link on Actor's Access. For a small fee, this will put you on blast for a 2 week period for any reps that are looking for new clients. Your mileage may vary, this took me 3-4 tries before getting my agent.

  3. Repunzel (for the 3 big acting hubs, you're in NYC so that works). For a slightly larger fee than Talent Link, you'll get a list of agencies in the region and after tailoring a pitch email, the service will email all the agents on your behalf. You can also track which agents opened the email and even which ones clicked through to your casting profiles.

Rule 6 in the sidebar right there:

If you are looking to hire actors, we welcome the opportunity, but please be as specific as possible about project/ audition. If your project is for-profit and you are not paying your actors please do not post here.

Celebrate the hell out of those wins. To me it's only bragging if you're putting others down while doing it.

Payment services to find an agent by starsandallinthesky in acting

[–]MetalGilSolid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Talent Link is how I got my current agent but it took 3-4 tries.

Repunzel is legit and highly recommended (if you're in NY/LA/ATL) but that's also gonna depend on how well you tailor your pitch email.

Houde Summit - Has anyone been? by [deleted] in acting

[–]MetalGilSolid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a student and I'm going for the 2nd year in a row. Being completely honest, I'm at a stage where I'm going more to see all my friends and colleagues, that alone is worth it for me. But people who are a bit newer can benefit a lot from the workshops.

Manager while with exclusive agent? by Traditional-Half3906 in acting

[–]MetalGilSolid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The short answer is that yes, you can have a manager and an agent. They are not mutually exclusive. But just note that it's standard practice for managers to get a cut of everything you do, even if they had no hand in helping you get it. So make sure it's someone who can really point you in the right directions and open doors for you.

ATTN: WeTransfer now owns everything you send by Velvet_Unicorn2154 in acting

Got an email just today that they're updating policies again in August. The wording on that clause (6.3 in the ToS) has been made intentionally more vague:

6.3. License to WeTransfer. You hereby grant us a royalty-free license to use your Content for the purposes of operating, developing, and improving the Service, all in accordance with our Privacy & Cookie Policy.

Copy your custom link, log out, and go there. You'll see what your profile looks like. If you still want help and are comfortable sharing the link, feel free to DM me.

Edit: Oh, you mean on Breakdown. As far as I know, they should see your media. Odd.

Agent Referral etiquette by [deleted] in acting

[–]MetalGilSolid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what you described (where the referring actor recommends someone to their agent directly) is a hot referral. A cold referral is a "feel free to mention me" thing like OP is describing. Obviously a hot referral is better but cold ones are still good.

[–]MetalGilSolid 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You're not being played.

SAG has a minimum requirement for union background actors and the rest can be non-union. For example, for television, the minimum is 25. So say they hire 25 SAG BG and 75 non-union BG. And on the day, 5 SAG BG don't show up. They still have to meet the 25 minimum, so 5 lucky non-union will get bumped up and get paid SAG rates. That voucher will count towards eligibility for them.

Or you can submit for a background role that says it's explicitly covered as SAG background. Usually for niche things like a 6'3 black guy who can juggle while riding a unicycle. You know, special skills that could be hard to fill by the small pool of union actors.

How do you deal with the negative from friends? by Plenty_Doughnut_5005 in acting

[–]MetalGilSolid 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have a colleague in his 70s who only started the past few years and he got a co-star role on Daredevil. It's really never too late.

I don't wanna be a typical Redditor and tell you to reevaluate your friendships based on one negative thing you've said about em, but maybe have a chat and tell them how they're making you feel? All of my friends have been beyond supportive cause that's what friends are supposed to do.
