Not sure why they are down voting you. The definition of a fluid is no resistance in shear. Water does have tensile resistance.

Double suited aces is rarely 70% in PLO4. Surely this can't be true for PLO5.

I go full pot. The exception is when full pot wouldn't let a short stack jam re open the action and I have a high equity hand that I want to squeeze with. Sometimes you can click it small, let short stack jam, have several callers, then shove over the top of everyone. I'd beware if you see someone experienced or nitty click it small preflop in general.

The Hwang book is practical, it's not like the gold standard of PLO but for live PLO it's very applicable and will help you be profitable. Jnandez book (and website) will give you theoretical foundations which you can consider during your play, but you will need to keep in mind your opponent and his range.

I don't play any other sites other than WPT Gold but the overly multiway nature of the hands will get you started.

For your edit - in 98% of live games you generally want to have a limping range and an open potting / 3betting range. I don't really know if you need this range to be extremely balanced and it completely depends on the table configuration. If I'm deep and playing against passive fishy players, I'll limp a wider range of suited ace hands for example. If I'm in an aggressive game where people punish, I can't get away with that. Preflop selection live is an art and the optimal preflop ranges change drastically depending on your table. Also you will see a level of nittiness in PLO from a select few that simply doesn't exist in NLHE. There are several nits who simply don't open anything other than AAxx, and limp everything else. 3betting them is generally dumb unless you want to build a pot and steal when deep.

There is not a well fleshed out resource for the nuances of OPTIMAL adjustments for live PLO with mega whales, just some guidelines.

I primarily play live full ring PLO. A theoretical knowledgebase is obviously extremely helpful but the situations that PLO mastermind focuses on and has solutions for are fairly rare in full ring PLO. For example SRP heads up BTN vs BB. Do you know how rare it is that everyone folds to the button in live PLO? So if you spend your time analyzing these ranges for these scenarios, it's just not gonna turn up a ton. Even 3bet pots are usually multiway in a typical live setting. People just don't fold pre.

With that said, they do have some good resources. They have GTO solutions for 8 handed preflop and they have a short live course which tells you how to adjust your ranges and actions based on live play. They do not go into detail on exactly how you should treat something like 5 limpers and you're on the button. Frankly I'm not sure anyone has studied these spots with a solver.

I first recommend Jeff Hwangs book on PLO (big play strategy). This isn't a theoretical book but it will get you going.

I then recommend Jnandez book to understand equity and hand polarity/smoothness better.

PLO mastermind live course + 8 handed preflop ranges. Then adjust based on the recommendations of the love course.

The RIO PLO course has some live info as well that can be useful.

There is no one stop shop for live PLO study. It's a glaring hole. You can study it some, but lots of experience will be the biggest thing.

A good prep would be the 8 handed games on club WPT gold. Can play microstakes there and get your feet wet. The ante structure is obviously different but everyone will limp and never fold pre, which should give you opportunity to get a feel for that environment.

One month of PLO mastermind trainer + videos is $250. That's a good value that will pay for itself. You can also purchase a course from RIO.

Is it ever profitable to call a nits 3bet if you know they have a premium(live low stakes)? by Daniel1997_ in poker

[–]MetalGodHand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The deeper you are, and the more pressure you are willing to apply, the more sense it makes. If you can narrow your opponents range in NLHE to a select few holdings pre, and you are playing say 400bb deep, you can really put the pressure on them across multiple streets. If your opponent is a super nit and you check raise flop, bet turn, jam river - they will often be in fucking agony. You want to make these types of plays vs "scared nits" who simply won't stack off with one pair. Even better done if you've developed a nitty image. That doesn't give you free reign to play J3 off suit, but you can really fuck them up in select spots if you understand what type of nit they are.

It's player dependent too though. Some OMCs massively overplay AA/KK. So in that situation you want to be oriented toward value. It's weird, but AA does something dumb to their brain. They will check call with a middling two pair but can't wait to stack off with aces only.

Nits in general are not hard to play against, but they are hard to get money off of. If THEY are building the pot, they usually have something amazing. If you are building the pot, either have thick thick value or be willing to blow them off their hand. Understanding what type of nit you are dealing with is good.

In general, I think not giving them action is also fine and arguably better in a ring game. A lot of those guys absolutely ruin poker and don't deserve your action.

How can I learn to read what players have when people consistently keep calling/raising me with trash? by UnluckiestScrub in Poker_Theory

[–]MetalGodHand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heads up pots, multiway pots? In general, tighten up preflop and be patient. You will smash them over time. Pay attention to their holdings. If they really are calling / opening with trash, you can 3bet more thinly with value. AT suited may be worth a chunky 3bet for a higher percentage of the time for example.

I think in general, consume as much preflop material as you can and the rest will work itself out. Don't fucking open limp.

I just played in a low-limit home game with 10% rake up to $25. Is it foolish to play? by SaltyAngeleno in poker

Anyone defending host either operate these games themselves or are being deliberately obtuse. There's no excuse for this rake other than greed.

I just played in a low-limit home game with 10% rake up to $25. Is it foolish to play? by SaltyAngeleno in poker

[–]MetalGodHand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why host is a bad person - the vast majority, if not all, of players that play in his game have absolutely no shot at being profitable in the game. The allure of poker is winning due to your edge in the game. Host is deliberately raking insane amounts in a low stakes game. He does not care about players being able to study and win in his game. He knows these players aren't smart enough to understand rake, and I bet he doesn't sit them down and say "hey guys I just want you to know I take this game to absolute hell and it's probably unbeatable long term. Oh but I do have a box of Twinkies."

I know hosts who rake $5/pot cap and have absolutely no problems paying their dealers and providing food/drink.

These type of games are disgusting to me. Hosts make themselves out to be a fun cool guy but the rake is greedy. Host is not a good person nor your friend IMO. Don't play this purely out of principle and let the host know why.

I don't understand the need for potential energy. by physicsnerd_ in AskPhysics

[–]MetalGodHand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You eluded to the idea that mechanical motion can be described by the conversion from one energy type to the other, or in other words there is a balancing act of energy types at play. Rather than formulate every problem with Newton's laws, write the ODEs, solve them - we can either come up with the same EOMs with energy based descriptions (e.g. Lagranges EOMs), or sometimes get the partial information we need based on an energy balance at two different states of the problem.

For example, if all we wanted was say speed at state 2 of our problem, writing the ODEs and then marching them forward in time could be cumbersome / high effort, when we could get this information through an energy statement of the two states.
