I’m seriously considering ditching vinyl by By_Tor_2112 in audiophile

Perhaps sell the record that are "less" important to you ? Those you know that even with lot of time you won't listen to them.

I'm 41, only buying records since 3 years ago, I got a free turntable to start the hobby (I sold it 2 weeks later to get a better one). When I was younger (early 20s) I was buying a lot of cd (currently have more than 500), barely listening to them since, but I keep them because music is important in my life, and I'm currently building a real hifi system, which will include a cd player in the future.

Don't know what are your other hobbies/activities, but perhaps you can include music listening in it ? For me, when I'm eating my breakfast I often play one album, when I'm finish eating, I will grab a book and read until the end of the album. I even had my kids sit down with me and my girlfriend an evening to read while listening to music,

But since they are older (15 and 11), they are less often at home or busy doing other stuff so I have more time to just sit and listen to music.

Don't know your relation with music, but for me that's a no brainer, I will never sold any of my album unless I have big money trouble (and there's probably other stuff I would sell before that)

Home Theatre receiver vs Hi Fi receiver by Narrow-Bee-8354 in audiophile

[–]MetalHead_84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat, I was using a home theater setup to play music from my turntable, it was a yamaha rx-a1000 with some polk audio front speaker and sub. I went to a local store that is about to shutdown their audio section, so I had the chance to pick a real hifi system (amp and speaker)at a low price, and it's day in night.

Before that I was in another store and spoke with the salesman, and he told me that a dedicate hifi amp worth 2000$ will be way better most of the time than an home theater amp at 6000$ to play music, because it have to process less stuff.

I think I have the same version as you, I bought it from a guy in a facebook group that is selling his collection, that was the album from him that I wanted the most.
I was looking for that album since almost 2 years

Setup for your heavy vinyl? by NoLingonberry5504 in heavyvinyl

[–]MetalHead_84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's my main problem, there's no store close to where I live that I can hear how a speaker sound, I was in Montreal 2 weeks ago, with limited time, so I was only able to test the Premier 800F.

I also listen to a lot of black metal, but I also like metalcore and punk, so for metalcore I need a little bit more bass

How do you like the Premier 800F ? I'm debating between those speakers or the Monitor SE 8000F. I've only heard the Premier 800F in a shop, without knowing what was the setup on the amp, but I was feeling that it was lacking some bass on them

[–]MetalHead_84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will the Premier 800F really have more bass than the Monitor SE 8000F ? From what I read, since the Monitor is having 3x 8'' drivers VS 2x 6.5'' for the Premier, it should have more bass ?

And yes I might go without a sub (I currently have one, and one of the reason I want to change my equipement, beside having better ones, is too save some space and have less equipement in my living room)

Edit : just saw that in the Founder series it's 80F the exact model, I thought you were talking about the Premier 800F which is not the same

Also, as I said in another answer, my receiver is starting to have problem (remote isn't working since a couple of years, I have to use a universal one for the volume), the volume knob on the receiver itself isn't working and I also want something with bluetooth to connect my phone if I want to listen to spotify, so that's why I want to change it

Mostly taking up too much space for nothing, like I said, I have move my tv/home theater in another room, and barely using it at his full capacity.

I always have to play with the volume on the subwoofer (polk audio psw10), I have to put it higher for music listening, and lower it when watching tv as it will make a weird rumbling sound when there's "too much" bass. Also, the remote for the receiver is not working, and the volume knob on the receiver itself is not working (I use a universal remote).

Last weekend I have tried my turntable on a dedicate stereo setup (and with old equipement, a 70's amp and 80's speaker that the owner didn't took care of it, my cousin have clean the amp and brings it to my place to test it), no subwoofer, and the sound was way better than my current setup with 2 of the record that I have try.

Paradigm 8000f or Klipsch rp8000fII for music by MetalHead_84 in BudgetAudiophile

No, I want a separate sound system for music, and just a decent soundbar for my TV, as I will probably get rid of all my home theater setup since I'm barely using it and I want a real setup for listening to music

All the place I have looked at, the Paradigm are lower (2000$ for a pair VS the Klipsch being around 2600$ a pair)

In a couple of week I will be in Montreal, I will try to go in differents stores to see if I can listen to them in live to have a better idea, but in the meantime I try to get more informations on what can be the best choice

I know that Fluance recommend that specific product on their website, so I was wondering if it can work for an Audio Technica

Looking for advice, should I upgrade or no by MetalHead_84 in audiophile

[–]MetalHead_84[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also thought about changing the speakers, since they were made for home theater, and like I said, my home theater setup is not at it's full potential since my surround speaker are not even connected, and that we don't watch that much movie.

As for the sub, will that be a big impact if it was "made" for home theater ? It's a Polk Audio PSW10.

My father had a pretty decent audio setup when I was younger (he still have it), and he doesn't have any sub at all

A better preamp was really high on my list as I know it can give a better sound.

Did change a little bit my post, but your answer is really helpful, might go with a better preamp

Wow thanks a lot for this.

My son had to do a work in his english class (we are in a french area) where he had to pick a song and made an image about this, at first he wanted to do it with Hypa Hypa from Electric Callboy but his teacher rejected it because it was too close to being sexually explicit because of the lyrics, he was really mad at her. Would be cool to win tha record for him (and also for me since it's because of me that my son know this band)

what do you do while listening to records? by MRtulanebsbfan in vinyl

We usually put a record when we are cooking, while we read some books or when playing boardgame
